waves yet again!
Mar. 21st, 2023 09:40 amWas here checking up on some folks and realized that I myself might seem to be MIA - I'm not, I'm here, I'm in fandom, just mostly Tumblr-adjacent these days! (https://www.tumblr.com/cesperanza) In my life I'm just in full-swing sandwich generation mode--career on the boil, elder care, teen (TEEN!) kid--and that's not leaving me a lot of time for much else. But I'm here, and if anybody wants me you can find me where you always found me and reach me where you've always reached me! :D
I've also been in input mode, and so here's a random list of things that I've enjoyed lately!
* Shrinking! (I knew Harrison Ford was funny from the Frisco kid, nice to see him be funny again!)
* Poker Face (because yes, I loved Knives Out and Glass Onion, but honestly, they had me from the Columbo font - Columbo is right up there with early Star Trek and MASH as a forever fandom.)
* The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt (https://www.ndbooks.com/book/the-english-understand-wool/) So this isn't a novel--its a short novella, you can read it over a single cup of coffee. I took it out of the library on my phone and read it in 15 minutes, but I'm kind of obsessed with it now and have been reccing it to my people like good fic. I might offer it for Yuletide, in fact.
* Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson--I guess there's this whole world of Aussie mystery novels that I didn't really know about? but I enjoyed this very much. The audiobook is particularly charming, IMO.
* Lum's new Due South vid - "Love Don't Die" - https://archiveofourown.org/works/45865429. Honestly, a good DS vid just sends me raging back into Due South like a fever. And this is a very good vid, it really gets the frission and chemistry of these characters!

Date: 2023-03-21 06:33 pm (UTC)I'm delighted that you call attention here to the Escapade Premiere due South vid that Lum made for me. (Are you aware of the other two due South vids that Lum made for me?)
When I read your phrase "sends me raging back into Due South like a fever" it made me hope that some day you will write another due South fic. Not only have I read every one of them that you've written, I've reread them more times than I've reread any other fic and I always rec them to newcomers to dS who ask me for recs.

Date: 2023-03-21 07:59 pm (UTC)I was watching an old Nero Wolfe show on Second Life (it's a watching party, it's a thing) and who should show up but Beau Starr, who played the Lieutenant on Due South, and I was so happy to see him there. The actor who plays Wolfe is Canadian and very good, which means I want to throw things at the sexist, misogynistic detective several times each show.

(Sending love, anyway. As ever.)
