When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? This week. That would depend on your definition of constantly, but it has happened more than once for me to have my Gmail open in another tab, and the left hand icon to appear as if reloading when the page itself is not reloading. My anxiety goes sky high every time it happens.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? Well, not really. I found this thread on MozillaZine forums, which describes a similar issue (just replace "continually" with "randomly", and you have my case), but the thread is from 2004.
i have no idea what my mom does to her computer, and she expects me to fix her computer, when i don't have the knowledge to do these sort of things! she's using windows xp, and whenever she tries to use her computer, it asks to sign into her online connection. we have an wireless internet connection and i've tried all of them to no avail. this is what it's showing me: ( pictureCollapse ) any suggestions?
edit: i ended up reinstalling windows again and that fixed it, now i'm stuck with a horrible resoulation and the lowest color bit (4), despite downloading the drivers. next step? finding my mom a new computer! this one is ancient.
My PC fan is running on HI all the time. The temperature thing on my case says 38C degrees. It used to hover around 27C when I wasn't playing Skyrim or something. I'm just surfing the net not doing anything laborious. The case has an adjustable fan, it's on HI, the vent's are clear. I don't know why it's so hot. I do have two hard drives as of a couple months ago, but one is just back up it's never doing anything. What could be the cause?
Question/Problem: Spent cousin's weekend up at the lake and they thought it would be *hilarious* to troll my computer. Nothing dangerous, but now, two months later, I discovered something I missed. And it's the one thing I can't figure out how to turn off and he won't tell me, is a voice alert when my battery level is nearly depleted.
Normally it just had a sound effect and an alert text that the battery life is low and the laptop will soon shut down and to please connect to a power source.
It still does that, but now it ALSO has a voice alert that loudly says: "(MY NAME) you are a drunk whore."
How do I turn it off?! It was so embarrassing when it went off in the library earlier this week. I can't believe it's been there, waiting for me, for this long!

When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then?: stupid a-hole was left alone with my computer two months ago
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot?: Searching the System Preferences for "battery", "alert", "record" for an option or application. Went line by line in Energy Saver, Keyboard and Mouse, Sound (effects, output, input), Speech, and Universal Access
Question/Problem: This morning, my computer wasn't starting. That is, it sprung on but the screen remained blank. I re-booted, and it worked fine for a few minutes, then re-booted itself (again the screen remained blank). This happened two or three times. I finally booted in safe mode and it runs fine. Next I tried a system restore. Now when I boot in "normal" mode, the desktop seems to have been wiped clean - no icons, no task bar, no nothing. I can only use it in safe mode, and then it seems to be stable. What can I do?
Operating System, Version and Service Pack: Windows XP SP 3.

When did the problem start? Since this morning (about 12 hours now).
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? Virus scans (Avast, Malwarebytes, PC Housecall and Superantispyware - nothing was detected). Thoroughly vacuuming out the inside to eliminate dust. Next I did a system restore. Yeah, told you. Clueless. :|
If you are receiving an error message, please include the entire text of the message. (If you have an error log, please post it under a LJ-Cut): No error message.
Question/Problem: I was doing normal stuff on my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop when all of a sudden the whole system froze and some weird green/pink pixelated lines appeared on my screen. I had to manually turn the computer off and on, and for about half of hour of trying it would only boot successfully in safe mode. Whenever I tried to let it boot normally, I would hear the Vista startup theme, but there was no display. Finally, it booted normally, worked as normal for a few days, and then the same deal happened again. It hasn't worked properly since then, I can't get a display at all right from the get-go. It's not a problem with the battery, as it does this running on both battery and while plugged in.

When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? About two weeks ago - it's not turning on at all now, no matter how much I try. As before, I HEAR the system starting up, but there's no display.
When I booted up my system in safe mode the first time I pretty much backed up everything onto my external harddrive, so I won't be crushed if this laptop is toast (it's about 4 and a half years old anyway), I just want to know what the problem is and if it's worth getting it repaired (I'm assuming it's a hardware problem) versus buying a new one completely.
os: Windows Vista Home Premium browser: firefox 3.5.16 Problem has been going on for a while now. My fiance got one of the pretend virus protection viruses. (I honestly can't remember the name.) We eventually got it out following the instructions to wipe the virus online. I really don't remember the steps exactly anymore. I just remember transferring the programs we needed via a flash drive and running them under safe mode.
The problem is that now he can't run certain things that connect to the internet. His browsers work, but the downloaded versions of aim, msn, yahoo, and our substiuting program, Jobulator, don't work and some other programs. We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and running under admin mode. None of that works. Another issue is that he's unable to update anything. Firefox can't update, and neither can Vista. He's been able to get the downloads themselves, but they refuse to install.
Do we need to do a recovery, or can we fix this? I'm not sure if he even has vista recovery disks.
Last night while working on a friend's pc, it blue screened with C000008c4 (I think that was it) and the words "unknown hard error"---We turned it off, now it just hangs at the post screen, after it detects the dvd drive and memory and hd, it never goes any further. Any ideas? Hard disk shot? OS shot?

Did you ever find a program, I am in the same boat at the moment, although I have managed to intercept the MCL data stream and trying to code for this.
