Hey guys! Can anyone consult me on this?

As far as I see this community isn't very active but I'm still going to ask you. I have to organise a computer-based video surveillance system. Thing is that I need to use multiple sources (cameras) with 20-30+ meters cables. I know for sure that my software Xeoma does support use of multiple sources but I'm not sure whether usb hubs and such long cables will still output any signals from my far-away cams. Is there a way to find it out (apart from actually trying it?)

USB ports not functioning

I'm using a laptop three year old Hel 80 from ibuypower, and I recently ran a kill disk because something was preventing me from opening a couple of programs. So I ran the kill disk, reformatted everything, and reinstalled all the drivers that came on a CD with the computer.

But now my USB ports don't work. I plug in my tablet, and if the tablet is getting power, there should be a light on it that shows up. No light. I plug in a flashdrive, one that lights up when it is functioning, and at first it will light up, but then nothing. There is no error message, no detection of any new driver or software.

OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2

Level of experience: intermediate enough to know to try to reinstall every single driver ever

When did the problem start: right after reformatting everything, which suggests driver error.

Troubleshooting steps: reinstalling all the drivers off of the driver CD that came with the computer.

Error messages that pop up: zip, nada, nothing. The flash drives don't even show up on the "My Computer" page.

So I guess what I want to know: is there a different driver out there for USB ports? Preferably something universal, because I don't even know what kind/brand of USB ports I have. Or if anyone has any other recommendations, that would be great, too.

Edit: Never mind! I went into the device manager, and uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers and that fixed it.

Do not want iTunes to open

I have a new Motorola W233 Renew that I am struggling to learn to sync MP3s with.  I have never before had a music player before and the phone itself is minimal to the point of frustration.  I am getting a hang of all this, though, I think.

BUT I hate that iTunes, continually opens each time I plug in my phone to the USB port and I can not find any way to turn off this unwanted "feature".  I cannot use ACC files on this phone, so I obviously do not want the phone to be synced through iTunes, so how do I do this?

I am using a Dell Laptop running Windows Vista Business and the version of iTunes that keeps popping up is apparently 7.7.1.

Hi everyone!

I recently received my college laptop, a Dell Latitude 830, and I'm already having issues with it. It runs Vista Ultimate, and I installed Service Pack 1 almost immediately.

My my main issue is that after I installed SP1, all 4 USB ports stopped recognizing any form of device (camera, iPod, flash drive, etc). I could connect via USB prior to SP1. It's incredibly frustrating.

Things I've tried already: Windows Update, but the window won't load (I just get a blank white window), Downloading two USB reliability updates from the Microsoft website, and even System Restore, which wouldn't load at all, but says it's running when I went to click on it again.

My dad, my boyfriend, and his computer engineer mother have all given the above suggestions, but nothing seems to be working. I'm pretty decent with computers, but this is way beyond my skill level.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, seriously.

New Old Computer

A friend recently gave me her old computer, an HP that seems to be about 10 years old. I don't have internet at home, so still have to work on the internet from the library. I was hoping to be able to download a few goodies from the library, so bought a flash drive. The computer told me that the "device driver" was not installed, and I looked and searched all over the computer.

I asked around a bit, but it looks like the flash drive I just bought just cannot be handled by a computer that old. So I bought some cheapie data/image/music CDs from Staples. Lol, the version of Adaptec the computer has (2.5) is not able to do anything with the CDs, though it can read from a music CD I put in, and also from the recovery disc ( I looked at the list of original programs for help, but didn't see anything likely).

Before I check out buying some floppy discs to transfer whatever from web to home PC, am I wasting my time even trying to load a wallpaper or text documents from the web? Is there a free download to get, if the floppies work, to update the Adaptec, Windows 98 or whatever?

I am mostly not that computer savvy, never having had one at home before, just using the library or occasionally using a friend's. So speak sloooowly....

Thanks.
