I have a charm I carry on me. Three pronged, carved of bone encased in metal and wire. Rough-hewn, marked with runes. It... sings for lack of a better term. Hum might be a better word for it.
Someone's taken it.

I don't care that you've taken it, but for your sanity and anyone else that you might foolish enough to keep it near, return it as soon as you can.

Is that common after they have given you something?

Usually whale bones. Sailors carve them.
But... there's a chance it may be human, I suppose.

My rover, last night.

Not cursed. Just... not a toy, and something that needs to be handled carefully.
[ well, the abbey would say it was cursed. but the void was the void and if it was wrong, it was because mortals were never truly equipped for it. ]

action;
Except now Garrett can't sleep. And every time his hand closes over it, it causes him a dull, throbbing pain in his head. Great. Why can he never steal something easy and harmless?
So as Corvo is nearby his rover at some point during the day, Garrett climbs a second rover nearby, pauses, then chucks the bone charm at the back of the Lord Protector's head. Hard.
There's your stupid bone charm. :T You can have it back now.]
Do you ever have anything that's not incredibly morbid in some way?
action;
It's an absence. The void is empty ( and full ) it echoes with silence ( and sings with chaos ) and it sits, once the touch of it is known, just under the skin. Trickles into the empty places. Crackles like Sokolov's great machines. Hums like whale song.
It is not want, it is not desire.
It is need.
( Outsider's eyes, but he is so utterly beyond salvation. Damned by any of the Abbey's standards )
And as much as it being tossed at his head is grating, there's a relief that slips when he ignores the one who stole, and focuses on taking it out of the snow. Careful slow fingers reaching fingers and he is not so reverent with very much. Utter relief when his fingers close over it. This is true song, this is the silence he craves, he wants, he must have. It dulls the world for the second he picks it up, carefully dusts snow off it and curls his fingers around it like it is precious. Bursting through him bright and clear and new, -- that he had explained but they could not understand why it was possible to take solace in that which washed away the mind, if only for these brief few seconds when misery was too, pushed away.
He lifts his head, and his mask is on, in the end, it's written in his body, in his gestures, as much the drug addled mess Fiona hinted at him being but for the sake that he must always press forward he cannot admit that he is slipping.
He takes a breath, he steels himself against the void song that fills his bones once more and turns back to Garrett.
( He is shaky; he is whole and he is so terrible, horribly, hollow ) ]
Should have guess it was you. [ the one with the eye he does not like to meet, and he is not sure why. ]

I couldn't rightly tell you that, outside of one mark, the others are not ones I understand.

Mostly because it is a very old practise, I don't think there are many that would know.
