Calling all young coders!
Are you passionate about the environment and excited to use your coding skills to make a difference? Then join CS Base (csbase.org) for our first-ever Climate Hackathon!
This is your chance to team up, brainstorm creative solutions, and build amazing projects that tackle real-world climate challenges.
Get started
Ready to dive in? Put together a team (or go for it solo!) with 1-4 team members, and head over to the Submission Requirements section below to learn more about what to build and how to submit your project. Check out this tutorial to get started if you haven't used DevPost before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCa7QFFthfU.
We can't wait to see your amazing ideas!

Requirements
What to Build
This hackathon is all about creating innovative solutions to climate change. It can be challenging to think of what issue to tackle, as topics can range from water conservation to energy. Luckily, the UN has a list of some of the things it is trying to achieve related to sustainability, called the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). If you see anything that resonates with you, feel free to tackle it!
A couple ideas for our beginner division include:
- Climate Awareness-Themed Video Game (using Scratch, PyGame, etc.)
- Recycling Tracker
- DIY Guide to Composting
- Climate Change Tracking Website
Some ideas for our advanced division include:
- Sustainable Transportation Tracker
- Renewable Energy Simulations
- Artificial Intelligence-Based Climate Predictions
- Smart Home IoT Solutions
The sky is truly the limit - be creative, and remember: the clearest and most thought-out solution will win!
Which Category to Enter
If you are just starting out in computer programming (< 2 years of experience), submit to our beginner division, where you will compete against others also taking their first steps into CS. Otherwise, submit to our advanced division, where you have the chance to win bigger prizes and submit in-depth computational work.
What to Submit
Your project: This can be a website, app, game, animation, physical creation, or any other creative coding project. You may use code or low-code alternatives (ex. Flatlogic). You must submit all code as a single PDF. If needed, this PDF may contain screenshots.
A short video: Briefly explain your project, showcase it in use, its purpose, how it addresses our current climate crisis, and what technologies you used to make it. This video can be made in any format, there are no restrictions in how you present your project as long as it is appropriate and effectively conveys your work (Max 3 minutes).
