Well met, residents of Svelte.
Who else has experienced modifications to their very being upon their arrival?
Where can I find information that is accurate and not fragmented nonsense? As fascinating as it is to witness such incompetence on a grand scale, I'd rather know my purpose here.

But no one knows our purpose here. We don't know what they want with us or why we were brought to this simulation.
no subject
How inconvenient.
[Ugh. Astral's vague memory of someone muttering about a mistake may have some merit.]Are we expected to do nothing? That seems counter to the need for an elaborate simulation or of modifications they have made to me.
no subject
What modifications are you talking about?
no subject
I can interact with my environment.

Oh, yes, as I was incorporeal. It was quite annoying.
no subject
I suppose they wanted to make it easier for you while you were here? Maybe?

As for accurate information, we've started gathering information, but this is a little out of date. But there's no clear indication that's been given regarding a purpose for our presence here at all. We have speculation, but it's all based on circumstantial evidence alone.
no subject
At this point, speculation based on what evidence available is better than nothing. I appreciate the assistance. May I contact you if I further questions regarding this document or any observations of my own?
And to what extent is your experience? I wish to compare.
no subject
I'm not human, but where I come from, I'm usually protected by an illusion that allows me to seem human. When I arrived here, that illusion was not present, nor were certain abilities I had back home. I've been able to regain some of those abilities (through spending Booleans, the non-diagetic currency we're randomly granted), but I haven't chosen to regain my Mask.
What 'modifications' did you experience on arrival?
no subject
I am Astral. While I'm not native to Earth, I'm familiar enough with it. How common is the phenomena of time travel amongst residents?
As for the modifications, there are many. I am now tangible, and capable of interacting with my environment. People are able to perceive me-- a feat that should be impossible to most humans. While it's useful for communication, I still find it disturbing. If they are capable of making such drastic changes to me, what else can they do?
That is why I wanted to learn more of this place.
no subject
That said, I've been displaced in time, unrelated to my experience here, before.
As for what the developers of this sim can do? Quite a bit, but not very skillfully, it seems. This simulation is...incomplete, flawed. Possibly maliciously so, but that's one of those circumstantial things we're not sure about. There's a principle called Hanlon's Razor that says "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity", but things here are...bad.
no subject
Fair enough. The technology present here is somewhat analogous to my experience of Earth, so I assumed it was similar chronologically. If it is of any help: I'm from a period farther than yours, though not by much. Only a thirty year difference.
Can you quantify "bad?" Or, at least, provide an example of what else is out there. I've noticed the lack of coherent information and how parts of this city are... Well, flawed is the nicer term, so let us continue with that.

Hello there! Welcome to Svelte, what I believe to be some getaway virtual reality! You were bought here by accident, but don't worry, Doubleneon's working very hard to get everyone out of here. Until then, you can just relax and explore the city!

wait what are you

Are you a lagomorph of some kind? Why are you bipedal? How can you speak? What does it mean to be a magical miracle?
no subject
[Usami giggles a little.]
As for the other questions... I'm magical in nature! I can perform a wide variety of magic.
no subject
What? But I was told magic is not real.

I was dead. Now, I feel decidedly less dead.
By some definitions, I imagine that might be considered a modification.
I'm sorry.
mod·i·fi·ca·tion
/ˌmädəfəˈkāSH(ə)n/
noun
the action of modifying something.
"the parts supplied should fit with little or no modification"
And, yes, as horrible as it sounds, it counts. I do not understand these developers at all. Death is sacred.
You've nothing to be sorry about.
You should have had a talk with my husband. I'm afraid he interfered with my death before whoever's in charge here got their hands on my data file.
no subject
There's a lot to unpack in such a few short sentences. It takes Astral a moment before he even knows where to begin. Her data file? A computer that is alive, then? But husband? What is a husband? Like a brother? Not sister, she used "he." Contextually that makes the most sense.]
Why would anyone do that? What is the purpose of interfering with death? I know no one wants to die, but understand it is inevitable for all living creatures.
no subject
But then she looks at Zelda, and she knows how she wants to keep her here, has felt her desire to bring back her sister, and knows with a certainty she can't shake that she'd give up her own life if it meant bringing Sabrina back.
And hadn't she cheated death for the Doctor the first day she'd met him? ]
Emotions are messy. It isn't about whoever's dying. It about who's getting left behind.
I'd made my choice. I was ready for the inevitability, as you put it. But it's hard to say goodbye. The Doctor wasn't ready to let me go.
no subject
Your husband was a medical professional?
[That makes sense! ... Sort of.]You mentioned a data file previously. I thought doctors handled human ailments. They are capable of handling computer ones, too?
