( When not exploring creepy hospitals, Dirk has spent his time customizing his new sleeper train interior. Textures, neon lights, the overall aesthetic. It would be so much easier if he didn't fancy a new color with each mood shift.
Some days, it's bright sunshine yellow, to match his jacket. Others, forest green, with leafy or bamboo textures to match. Today, it's oceanic blue with mermaid scales. That flashy yellow jacket of his sticks out like an eyesore; a sunflower leaning towards much needed sunlight. )
Fiddling around with code here is, got to say, a very invigorating experience. Start messing with just one line and, before you know it, the whole day is gone. Just like that!
( He snaps his fingers to emphasize his point. Wasting a whole day without even trying? Absolutely Normal... for Dirk, anyway. He grins and looks rather like a puppy eager to make new friends.Not that he craves y'all or anything. Nope. )
So! What's everyone been up to? Oh! You know what we need here? A radio station. This train is fine and all but dead air is, well, dead air. Makes one go all fidgety, you know what I mean?

audio? action? both!
{He both wrote that and shouted it. Loudly. And now he's gone in search of the Rowdy Queen through the train yard, continuing to record as he talks.}
We could host our OWN radio station, Amanda! We'd have to steal some songs to play, of course, but wouldn't it be awesome??
audio! SORRY I GOT EXCITED
lols ur all good! that was in regards to what Dirk was doing!
Oh? Tell, tell! Also, where are you? Have you decorated your train yet?

Your drumkit! Marvelous! That's it, that's all the tracks we need.
{Spoken with absolute certainty for someone who barely knows music.}

I was thinking of starting a band with this kid named Rich, but with the whole... situation going on right now, kinda put it on the backburner.
no subject
Situation? What situation? Also, I've changed my mind. We're gonna need more than just a drum solo for our radio station.
(Those are both absolutely equally important.)
no subject
(Then she gives him a curious look. Huh.)
The doppelgangers?
no subject
(Courtesy of being holed up in his own train car for the past several... whatever. He plops down on the first flat surface.)
How do I know you're not one of those... alternates?
no subject
(She hadn't seen or heard of any doppelgangers on her end. Maybe she wasn't interesting enough to have any-- or worse, she had some and they just weren't different enough. Maybe it's fate, and her life doesn't sway any way except the way it's supposed to.)
no subject
Soooo much easier to do as she says. He's certain Martin would agree.)
Okay then, trust it is.
(It really, really was nice. His feet dangle above the ground.)
Wait, are we both certain Martin and Farah aren't... well, different?
no subject
(she doesn't know what's more of a bummer, that he's gone or that Dirk is going to react to him being gone.)
Farah's still here, though! We have her, thankfully.
no subject
(He trails off with the realization he couldn't recall exactly when that was. They'd been together, all four of them, when they'd moved into the trains, hadn't they? Just before separating into their separate cars, and...
How long ago had that been?
Was his memory failing him yet again?
Dirk rubs at his temples as he feels the phantom pain of electrical currents.)
I, um...
(Hours? Days? Weeks? Time felt too slow and yet sped up all at once. First he lost Todd and now...)
I'm going to... go. Somewhere else. For a while.
(The room was suffocating and he couldn't explain why. He's up and dashing for the door just really, really wanting to get out.)
no subject
It'll be okay, Dirk! (She calls after him.)
video;
I've heard that people have been able to edit the code here. How much knowledge of computers does one have to have to do that?
[ Because despite being from 2020, Malcolm is not that technologically savvy. ]
What kind of radio station? One that plays music or one similar to the BBC?
[ Malcolm detected an accent, so he went with BBC instead of NPR. ]
video;
I was off studying a flickering light when the others messed with the code. No clue how or what they did, only saw the results after.
(...Well. He can alter the interior of sleeper car, but that's about it.)
I'd love a variety of things. Who would want to listen to a station that only played one thing? Bo-ring.
no subject
Yeah, I guess that would be kind of boring. Where would you get the music from? Is there music from your home available here?
no subject
Oh, but can we acquire music from home? That would be fantastic!
no subject
Maybe? I got my pet parakeet from home, so I guess anything's possible.
text;
What is a radio station? Does it have any resemblance to a televee station?
[Video killed the radio star. Astral hasn't even heard of it before.]How can air be dead? Air isn't alive.
no subject
You are on the right path with that comparison. Both can come out of squares... or circles... Radio plays music only, the TV can have video, too.
no subject
Squares and circles.
I am quite familiar with the "square." Or, more commonly known, a television set. It's a device capable of receiving digital signal to broadcast a wide array of programming. Entertainment, education, and public information.
If radio is similar enough but only capable of music, why would we need it when the alternative can provide so much more? That seems impractical.

Sometimes, a person wants to close their eyes, allow their mind to drift away as they listen to a specific track. Certain snippets of music can take us out of ourselves--
(Pauses. Hesitates. Finally, shakes his head, and continues on cheerfully.)
Oh but I'm getting all complicated now, aren't I? Rewind, backtrack, ignore all of that except for the first part. Should be a good enough answer, yea?
no subject
I suppose, though I still don't understand the point you're trying to make. You can close your eyes in front of a televee.
no subject
(Sigh.)
Nevermind.
