Also your friend might be an idiot. Magical items are a fucking hazard, even the basic bitch ones. And if it was something, like, as a totally wild and absolutely random example, a magic wand that shoots lethal PS4 controller button shapes, then that's not basic, just bitch.

Depends on the type of magic. For example, werewolf spirit stuff has issues with silver. If it's religious magic, desecration is an option. If it's fae in nature, there's ways, I'm not about to put them on the network.

That's probably a necessary step before destroying it. If it's the magical version of radioactive, destroying the physical shell could spread magic further.
