[It's Desmond again, but he's looking a lot less like he's about to jump out of his skin than he did the last time he appeared on the network. That said, he still looks... nervous. But hey, that's just his default setting.]
I, uh... I'm heading to a few places today to do some painting, w-wondered if anyone would want to make a group effort out of it.
[But that's not all. He makes a face, rubbing the back of his head, then frowns as he adds--]
Anyone else n-noticed the NPCs acting kinda... weird? I asked one of them a-about this 'Blacklight Market' thing they're on about and they l-looked at me like I'd grown a second head.

[ A beat. ]
Painting sounds like a good way to keep busy. I'm in.

[Sometimes it glitches out, and... he really tries not to think too hard about it. Desmond shakes his head slightly.]
But yeah, sure, y-you want to meet me over there?
no subject
Absolutely. I'm just wrappin' up at the hospital now.
no subject
[Go on, ask him about the café. Just, maybe later. He shoots her a quick smile.]
I'll come by there, we can go over together.
no subject
Okay. Yeah. I'll uh, meet you outside the main entrance?
no subject
[He figures she'll wait if he's late so he doesn't rush too much, but he still makes good time to make sure she isn't waiting around too long. If he does get there first he'll find a wall or a bench to sit on and wait.]
no subject
Hey, Des. Where are we headed first?
no subject
This way. They've got what we need down there.
[Painting, he thinks, sounds far less dangerous than running into a burning building.] Don't think we need to rush.
no subject
Have you painted before?
no subject
[And he laughs as he says that. Desmond misses his mother, but that doesn't mean he can't still find humour in the things she'd sometimes ask him to do.]
She could be like that. She'd say the colour was affecting her empathy, and ask me to do it for her. My dad would do it, before he passed.
no subject
That's very sweet of you both. I've actually never painted outside of art classes in school so I'll need to rely on your expertise. [ Anna's serious. She has little frame of reference for how this kind of thing works which is nerve wracking for a perfectionist like her but it's not like they taught Painting 101 at the Academy. ] Lead the way.

The NPCs as a rule act weird. Are they being weirder than usual? I don't think I've heard of the Blacklight Market.

Was just something about how they looked at me when I asked what they were talking about. Like I was... out of place, or something? [Desmond's had that look directed at him a lot - he can recognise it for what it is.]
Never seen one of them look at me like I didn't belong.
no subject
That's true. They're not usually hostile to us, though it sounds like this is something they're trying to keep to themselves.
[ That's interesting. Malcolm makes a note to himself to try to look into it. But, back on Desmond's original statement: ]
It's been a while since I've painted, but I'll join you if you'd like.
no subject
[He hadn't thought too much about it at the time, trying to duck out of the suddenly awkward interaction as quickly as possible, but afterwards... The more he'd mulled it over, the stranger it had seemed.]
Be good to have you, though. D-don't think they're looking for Monet or anything. Just get the paint on the wall, you know?
no subject
no subject
[But he supposes he knew what he meant... so he's not really blaming anyone.]
That's what I mean. Some places might want something more a-artistic, but you need a clean wall to start a-anyway.
no subject
[ Malcolm doesn't begrudge him that, if he does. It's just a bit odd. Most people who paint to relax do the artistic sort of painting. ]
no subject
[He sighs. This feels like a callout.]
It's the, uh... mindlessness of it, I guess? Don't need to think too hard about what I'm doing.
[Or too hard about doing it wrong.]
no subject
I understand what you mean. Have you tried yoga at all?
no subject
[He rubs the back of his neck, making a face as the action twinges his shoulders.]
Have you?

I mean, they might like that, but I'd p-probably ask first.

No, and I expect the company might m-make it pass more easily. But, um... by all means, b-bring a book and wait until we're done.

[ Guess who's spent months scoping out wherever he can get stuff to primp with? This one right here. ]
no subject
Ah--
[No, just-- give him a second.]
It's uh... just walls, mostly. Interior. Wood and plaster, after they do the repairs.

What kind of painting w-were you thinking I meant?
