[Luckily for Frisk, Chara has honored the truce between the two of them: no killing each other in their sleep.

In fact, as a token of goodwill, they've done something to make Frisk's room feel a bit more like Home. Just like Toriel used to do. While Frisk slept, Chara quietly set down a plate in the middle of the rug.

[Someone -- and I'm not naming any names, because it could have been anyone -- has torn the room apart looking for the Real Knife. If the locket is here, then it must be too. They had no luck finding it, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Drawers have been pulled out, dumped on the floor, then tossed haphazardly aside. Frisk's mattress is halfway across the room. One of the stuffed toys has had its head ripped clean off and its cottony guts strewn about.

The head, for the record, can be found in Frisk's sock drawer.]

That's not funny.

[They stopped keeping the dagger in their room once it became clear Chara wouldn't rest until they'd located it. Burying it near the place where Frisk initially arrived (the only way they thought they might remember) is far from a permanent solution, but it's all they could think of in short notice.

It takes them a few hours to get everything back into order. They don't discard the poor decapitated stuffed animal, though they do bury it in one of their drawers to possibly be stitched together later.

[Been a while since Chara was The Literal Worst Roomie Ever. Today, they hang out in their room until Frisk gets back. Right when they hear the door unlock, they SAVE.

Chara barely sets foot outside when there's a soft click, a not-at-all-soft yell, and the pillowy "whumpf" of impact. A veritable snowstorm of feathers whooshes in through the open doorway, and settles serenely on the ground. The sharp whack of a fist hitting a wall, and Chara steps calmly back into the room, feathers in their hair, feathers sliding off their shoulders, a feather caught underneath the chain of their locket. They're massaging their hand and pretending Very Hard that they were just doing a cool dramatic gesture totally on purpose, not that they have been pranked into absolute oblivion.]

[Toriel seems to have resolved the incident for now- though that didn't mean she was going to simply leave them be. She waits outside their door, sitting in the hallway- listening for any unusual sounds, and keeping an eye on her phone, in case they call or text her about needing anything.

Hours pass, and night falls- and eventually, she feels that they're probably both asleep by now. So she can turn her attention away from watching them, to do something special.

Chara could certainly use some more cheering up, after all- Frisk, too. And if they called her 'Mom', then... well, it'd probably be a welcome gift for them as well, wouldn't it?

She slowly, carefully opens the door in the middle of the night- relieved to see that they're both asleep- she should be too, honestly. Normally, she starts baking earlier than this, but... she can afford to be a little tired tomorrow. Carefully, she sets down two plates, with two slices of pie- one on each side of the room. One for both of them.

Hopefully this will help- at least a little bit.]

[Frisk sleeps better than they have in a long time. Turns out spending a few days crying and sleeping fitfully on a library floor will really wear you out if you're thirteen, and malnourished, and a little bit terrified for the future.

They almost assume they're still dreaming when they wake up and see that familiar triangular shape on the ground. But, no, it's real - it's really real, and Chara has one too.

Their eyes fill with tears again, of an entirely different sort.

Crybaby.

It's still the taste they remember, though. Still the scent of cinnamon and home.

[Frisk peers up blearily, half-asleep and half-dreaming at the sound of something rattling. And then - then they're awake. Is someone coming in? Something coming to find them, to - to -

Their brain catches up with reality, and then there's a thump that shakes the room, a scream that slices the silence and Frisk scrambles to flick one of the lights on, almost tripping out of their bed as Chara screams and screams, pounds the wall with their fists, and Frisk sort of, doesn't exactly mean to, but sort of crashes into them in what was meant to be a hug but might more approximate a tackle, if said tackle was done by someone who had never executed a tackle before.]
