Subscriber Sidebar

A Devvit application to monitor your subscriber count and display it publicly in your subreddit's sidebar. Supports Mobile, Shreddit, and Old Reddit.

Installation

  1. On the app's directory page, click the + Add to community button.
  2. Accept app permissions, and select the subreddit/community you wish to use the app with.
  3. Once installed, you will be automatically taken to the app's settings page.

Note: Please allow up to 5 minutes for the sidebar to be updated with your subscriber information after initial installation.

App Settings

Widget Name / Sidebar Header

Specify the name of the widget used for Shreddit and the Reddit app, and the header used for the sidebar on Old Reddit.

Subscriber Customization

Customize how your subscriber count is displayed. This setting is similar to customizing the subscriber and online users metric like before.

Subscriber Refresh

Choose how often to update the subscriber count. Default is every hour.

  • Note: Each update will result in a mod log entry due to it making a wiki revision for the Old Reddit sidebar, quicker refreshes will mean more mod log updates.

Display Preference

Choose whether to display the subscriber count on Old Reddit, Shreddit, or both. Default is Shreddit / Reddit App. Changes may take 1-2 minutes to fully process.

Take Note

You will need to make sure that you have space for a new widget in your community, or you will not see the subscriber count in the sidebar. Once the widget is created, you can reorder the widgets as desired. On Old Reddit, the subscriber count will be added to the very top of the sidebar and cannot be moved. It uses a line separator (---) to assist with updating itself, so please do not delete it.

Common Issues

"Oops, something went wrong" when adjusting app settings

This is most often due to issues with initializing or updating the sidebar wiki page on Old Reddit, and may be caused by the wiki page simply not existing. To check this, navigate to https://old.reddit.com/r/SUBREDDIT/about/edit/ (replacing SUBREDDIT with your subreddit) and look for the text box under the sidebar header. Make a change to the text box, scroll to the bottom of the page, then click save. This process creates the sidebar wiki page for Old Reddit if it doesn't exist, and forces an update to it if it does. Wait a few minutes, then check to see if the subscriber count is displaying in the sidebar when viewing your subreddit via the old.reddit.com URL. If it's displaying, you can reattempt changes to the app settings.
