[ He knows his replica was created out of him, a weapon that was never meant to have it's own heart, but looking at him Riku isn't really sure he sees himself anymore. He knows they're the same on the surface. They have the same eyes, the same nose, the same hands. The concentrated look on the other boy's face is one that he often wears himself, but they aren't the same people anymore. Riku has seen too much, learned too much about the nature of a heart to believe his replica is just his mirror anymore.
Riku thinks there's probably something in what he says, like how you can't ever escape yourself, or you always have yourself for company, but he can't quite reach for it right now. Everything is gauzy around the edges. Mostly, he's relieved not to be alone. He's happy for Sora, but...
He watches his twin eat another of the yellow skittles. Riku likes the yellow ones too. ]
You don't have to be. [ He says, with the kind of open honesty that comes with alcohol and his guard well and truly down. ] You could go anywhere you wanted.
[ they have the same eyes and nose and hands, and at one point, even more than that. but they're different now; he knew the moment riku showed up again that he'd changed, not only in his appearance. there's something not quite like jealousy, not quite like envy that he feels when he looks at him — the kind of quiet wonder at seeing the kind of growth he never had. the kind of growth that maybe he never will have.
and maybe, that's okay too. maybe he's meant to grow in a different way. ]
I could. [ he breathes a quiet chuckle; it's easy to take that honesty and openness in stride now. he guesses it's only natural, after sharing riku's heart for a while. he's never had trouble with speaking his mind, not at the castle and not now, but in sometimes he thinks riku would understand even without him needing to say anything. ] Does that mean you're gonna give me the gummi ship?
[ It startles a breath of a laugh out of him, and then, after a beat— like a delayed response— he starts to giggle. After that he can't seem to stop, and he closes his eyes, his shoulders shaking against the lamp post. He's not even sure what he finds so funny about it, but it takes him a minute to regain his composure enough to talk. ]
Sure, why not?
[ Though, it's not his gummi ship so it's probably not his to give. Still, he doesn't think Sora would mind very much. Riku's still has that loose smile on his face when he looks back over. ]
[ he wasn't expecting it to be that funny, but he finds himself grinning anyway, rubbing his nose a little in a very poor attempt to hide it. riku's laughter is contagious though, and before long he's snickering a little too. ]
I wouldn't know where to start.
[ he's got hazy memories of the islands, hollow bastion and a few others; he's sure those places have changed over time. riku's memories of them now are likely different anyway — better to find out for himself.
he sighs, leaning back against his hands as he stretches out his legs in front of him. ]
[ It isn't that Riku purposefully excludes himself from these things, but more he's grown accustomed to being alone. He's never been the kind of person to make easy friends, and he knows he can be abrupt when he meets new people. He wants the friends he surrounds himself with to be happy, and do what he can to make it happen.
He knows his other self struggles with his identity, both because Riku had the selfsame struggle and because of the nature of how he came to be. Riku is trying his best to be supportive without being too much of a burden, so he keeps encouraging him to do his own thing, see Namine and form those connections without his input.
It never occurred to Riku he'd want to spend time with him of his own volition, not now he doesn't have to. His expression creases, somewhere between touched and bewildered. ]

We got separated in the crowd so I thought I'd just wait by the biggest tree I could find.
But I guess I fell asleep first.
