Character Name; Luna Lovegood
Canon; Harry Potter
Canon Point; Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, after Professor Slughorn's Christmas party
Age; 15-16 (if she's in her Fifth Year)
House; Odin. She a Ravenclaw in canon, which is a house that focuses on the mind and intellectual pursuits. Though she's rather offbeat, she is very perceptive and thoughtful.
Power; Ice
Personality; Luna Lovegood is an eccentric to the fullest extent of the word. Even in a world where fantasy becomes reality, surrounded by colorful beasts and magic, Luna is still seen as an outsider of sorts. Her behavior and individual quirks are outside of the wizarding norm, such as many of the beliefs she shares with her father that most consider to be simple poppycock or insanity. Her father is the editor of The QUibbler, which contains a good deal of her ideas. Most famously known, she believes in Nargles, though it's unsure of exactly what they are. She also believes that the Aurors are trying to take down the Ministry of Magic using a combination of Dark Magic and gum disease. The less sense it makes, the more she seems to advocate it. Hermoine said, "Ginny's told me all about her, apparently she'll only believe in things as long as there's no proof at all." She's seen handing out copies of The Quibbler on the train, but she is never pushy about anything she believes; she simply wants to spread awareness.
Because of her strange ideas, she is often the subject of ridicule from her fellow students. But despite her delicate appearance, Luna is quite the unflappable girl. "Loony" Luna is level-headed and understanding, taking her nickname in stride. Her patience is eternal, which gives her a calm sense of self-confidence that is neither flaunted or spoken of; it's simply there in her will to just be who she is, despite what everyone else thinks of her. She has no problem distancing herself from others if she must, but clearly cares about the people she is lucky enough to consider friends. For a while she goes on without shoes, saying that they had all mysteriously disappeared. She also has a habit of putting her wand behind her ear like a pencil, which is not something many do with such a special object.
But she is more than just a bundle of oddities, though that is what most people she interacts with tend to focus on. She is very perceptive and seems to be able to read people quite well. Though she offers her advice on things freely, not everyone listens to it. Harry is one of those few who give her a chance, and over the course of the story's events, others soon learn that is a sweet girl and a formidable ally. Luna appears to go through life in a dream-like state, her manner of speech lofty with her head in the clouds. She is almost embarrassingly honest with her statements, but in a way, it is refreshing. But she does, however, have a tendency to simply slip away like driftwood being taken out to sea when she's lost interest in a conversation, like something else is calling her away. Her book smarts and ability to reason through things reflect the house she was sorted into, though she is far from a stereotypical Ravenclaw.
Even in the most dire situations, Luna is able to keep her optimism until the bitter end. Being captured and imprisoned by Death Eaters wasn't enough enough to shake her. She is loyal to the few friends she has and was one of Harry Potter's first believers and followers when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named returned. Luna also has an artistic streak, shown by her craftiness in creating her own jewelries and the mural of her friends she has painted on her ceiling at home. She is a talented young witch as well, catching onto the patronus charm rather quickly.
