We went to such a great park today, met Sarai there with her two littlies (who are biggies compared to my two - or at least kind of fit in between them). L is going to kindy this year and is such a handsome little thing, full of energy and curiosity and WORDS and although that's normal for a 4-year-old, being used to a 2-year-old, it's awesome to hear him chatting away. M is a little sweetie, walking and talking, and typically little-sister, is pretty much interested in everything L does - made me think that T will be very much the same. Sarai and I compared notes on second babies, she brought me decaf cafe coffee, which I haven't had for ever, and we sat in the park and watched our children play... felt strange to be surrounded by these other parents and grandparents doing a similar thing. Sometimes I just feel like such an oddball when it comes to being a parent. Our normal outings to the park don't usually coincide with other people's, so we don't have to interact with strange children or parents, and it throws me a little when we go somewhere like this. Our only other kind of similar experience is playgroup, and we know all the children and parents there, so it's not really the same. Anyway. Great to see Sarai and for S to have some fun with other kids (T just rolled around on the blanket and smiled at everyone). Also, she gave us some clothes which I get to go through tomorrow and fawn over - mostly for T but a few for S as well, which is brilliant because we were just running out of right-sized clothes coming in to winter, so a godsend really, since I didn't want to have to go and buy too much right now. We also borrowed a Jolly Jumper for T to bounce about in, and tried it this afternoon - so. much. fun. She is ecstatic about it - understood right away what to do and leapt and pranced about, squealing. :D S of course is very jealous. Let him play with the vacuum cleaner to take his mind off it. You would think that this option would pale in comparison to the joy of a Jolly Jumper, but no - vacuums rule in S' opinion, so he pretended to vacuum the floor (with appropriate sound effects) while I took pictures of T having a ball.
M emailed today to say that they are having to take annual leave next week for four days (Tues-Fri) as the company is not getting enough work and needs to shut down to save some money. It's a frightening reminder that he could be out of work sometime soon. Before that happens, they will go to a four-day week, which I don't think is too bad, but will probably mean the CFF are at an end *sob* ... we'd keep them for a bit and see how things went. We chatted about me working, and in reality I think that that would be a last resort, because it would save more money to have me home than it would to have him here... and I could just see myself coming home and cooking tea, bathing children and doing much of the stuff I do now, on top of working fulltime - purely because that's how it would turn out (and M's cooking prowess extends to pancakes and gingernut biscuits - a step up from toast, I'll admit, but still not really nutritious or well-balanced).
Anyway, we're hopefully getting the wood from M's boss to start building our raised beds this weekend, or at least make a start, and M can finish them off next week. Since he will be off for the whole of next week, I'm going to postpone the visit to the farm until Tuesday so I avoid the idiots on the road, plus that way I get to travel home with Mum :) as they're coming up to see my uncle and travelling back that day as well. Yay! So I get company on the way home, and what's even better, it's with my mum!
