I just woke up from a dream in which I was furiously cleaning my house in dim light while trying not to wake houseguests who were sleeping in or curiously near the kitchen (one of those details that shifted back and forth during the dream. I woke up feeling exhausted from all that intense dreamcleaning.
So I'll remember it later if I care:
It started with trying to get things in my house rearranged for the next work to be done on it. The handyman wanted to do something unusual (and somewhat interesting) around one of the windows. There was a (large) third room on the third floor which doesn't exist in my house but which resembled aspects of the ground floor of a nonexistant house I've dreamt about several times before. A friend happened to be there, and I said something relating to a previous discussion about having him and his wife move into my house when their lease expired (odd, because in real life both the couples that the dream couple might have been own their own houses).
After one of those dream-transitions, the friend-couple were tucked into bed in a room (which doesn't exist) next to my kitchen, or at other times in the rest of the dream, in the kitchen, while I tried to clean up the kitchen without waking them or turning on any more lights than the dim ones already burning. At one point they did wake up a little and made a joke of asking me for something silly. Every time I turned around, I found more dishes and pots and pans that I either don't own in real life or haven't used in a long time, on extra racks and shelves I don't own, and was trying to figure out where to put things as I cleaned them so I could clean the counters and shelves. I kept running into another room that doesn't exist to put things away, and noticed more things to clean in that room whenever I did so.
For the rooms in my dream to exisst, the top floor of my house would
have to be twice its actual width, and the ground floor would have to be
two-and-a-half to three times as wide as it really is. As far as I can tell from
the parts I walked through this evening, it was the same length front-to-back as
the real-life version. The layout of the kitchen was a little like a cross
between my real kitchen and the home of
anniemal and
syntonic_comma (which is where I am now (no, I didn't wake up in
the kitchen)).
