CHARACTER
Character Name: Luca Krantz, powered name Megrez
Character Age: 22
Canon: Original Character
Canon Point: Present day- during a lull in activity in Luca's world.
World Description:
Luca's world is generally like modern day Earth, but with one twist: the presence of magically powered people. These people are called Cosmonarchs, and along with a powered "form" they have a set of magic along a theme, commonly referred to as a "power sphere." Their more dangerous counterparts, the Chaonites, have a distorted magic that corrupts the world around it, along with the power to drain energy from people for their own nefarious purposes. The danger the Chaonites pose to the world is the reason for the "War on Chaos," the war of the Cosmonarchs vs. the Chaonites. Assisting the Cosmonarchs in the fight are creatures called Oracles, regular animals that awoke to a consciousness and have the ability to awaken Cosmonarchs to their power. Celeste City, the setting for Luca's story, seems to have been chosen as the hub of powered activity for mysterious reasons.
Behind all of the hubbub is a mysterious force known as the Astral Consciousness. It seems to be responsible for the occurrence of powers, though its true nature is unknown. Whether it's a god, an alien, or something beyond mortal ken, there are a few parties that seek it out for their own agendas...
History:
(To avoid confusion: "Luca" refers to the character in her civilian life, while "Megrez" is her powered self.)
Currently, Luca works as a bartender for the Golden Egg bar in Celeste City. At 16, she was awoken as the Cosmonarch Megrez, and told that she was to engage in battle with the Chaonites, a faction of powered people powered by a dark force. Looking for something interesting in her life, she dove into the "Cosmo life," attacking Chaonites and the monsters they unleashed on the city.
For a while, Megrez fell in with a bad crowd that was very much in favor of eradicating Chaonites by any means necessary. While Chaonites could be purified into Cosmonarchs if they really wanted to be, the bad crowd's dogma mostly pertained to killing Chaonites. Megrez would go on to kill three Chaonites, her mental state deteriorating as she went. She publicly snapped at those who wanted to "save" Chaonites through purification, and eventually had a breakdown so bad that she used her powers to fling herself to her Cosmonarch planet for a few days.
While she was there, Megrez began to see visions of a previous Cosmonarch of Megrez. This predecessor was kind, gentle, forgiving... and a vigilante enforcer of the law. She personally assassinated a great many enemies, and this trend continued until she discovered that her lover was working as a spy for an enemy faction. She roughed him up, but when all was said and done, she forgave him and offered him a chance to stay with her if he cut ties with his faction. He did, and the story seemed to be a happily ever after. Seeing the predecessor's capacity for redemption inspired Megrez to attempt redemption for herself. In order to repair herself, she was going to have to show some mercy.
When she returned to Earth, she started her road to redemption by apologizing to the people she had blown up at before and taking a more diplomatic stand on Chaonites. Talking first instead of fighting earned her a lot of interesting information and new perspectives, and slowly, her bad reputation faded out of the spotlight.
Time went on. Luca took a hiatus from the powered life when she went into college, occasionally powering up when word of big events reached her. Things were quiet for her for a while. Once she graduated, however, she felt distinctly aimless. She wasn't sure how to apply her degree, and the powered life couldn't really sustain her. Fortune turned for her when she was invited to work at the Golden Egg, and now she spends her days interacting with clients, mixing drinks, and powering up to patrol on her days off.
Personality:
On the outside, Luca seems to be a cheerful, bubbly girl with a sunny outlook on life. While this is mostly her true persona, there are times when it slides into a pasted-on veneer. She has swallowed down a great deal of guilt and baggage regarding her past, and her tendency to avoid actively looking back on her past and the feelings that come with it causes it all to stew inside her. Though she's doing better than she was at the peak of her destructiveness, sometimes the facade slips and takes her mental state with it, sending her into fits of bawling incoherent frenzy. She's tainted, her innocence smashed to bits, and she knows it. Though she'll never say so out loud, that is her one resentment of the powered lifestyle: no one comes through it unscathed.
Still, Luca has put a lot of effort into redeeming herself. She forgives earnestly, listens well, and keeps her mind open. She has become the type to talk rather than fight first. She is slowly developing a philosophy of what she calls "devotion": a principle or concept that gives one strength in the best and worst of times, something that keeps one moving forward no matter what. Some might see it as a refusal to ever look back, but Luca thinks that's the point: too much reflection and rumination can leave someone stuck in one place. The only way to proceed is forward, and change is bound to happen with time.
To sum it all up, Luca keeps a smile on her face and her eyes on the horizon. She refuses to go backward, only forward. Though she does carry grief from her past, she is trying to heal and redeem herself in hopes of someday becoming a greater person.
Inventory: Luca will be bringing her transformation item, which is also the brooch on her powered outfit, the winged crystal egg. She's also bringing a device called a Cosmocompact, which resembles a fusion of smart phone and mirrored compact (it's got two screens, kind of like a Nintendo 3DS). This is one of the primary communication devices of the Cosmonarchs, though it probably won't work in Hadriel unless it can somehow be attuned to the setting's particular network.
Abilities: As Megrez, Luca has a passive glamour that protects her civilian identity. In other words, if you see her as Megrez, you won't recognize her as Luca unless she powers down right in front of you, which is the one way to "break" the glamour officially.
As for her actual magic powers, Megrez's power sphere is Eggs. This means she can do a lot of things with her incredible but not actually edible projectiles. Her basic means of attacking is conjuring a standard AA-grade egg and lobbing it at someone. She can also conjure ostrich eggs, which are bigger and heavier and hurt more. These eggs and the goop/debris the leave behind will disappear after 30 seconds, so no, you cannot eat these eggs. She can also shoot a rapid-fire stream of several eggs at someone.
Her "special" attack, however, allows her to encase one target in an egg shell for 40 seconds. The egg can't be broken until the 40 seconds are up, at which point it will either disappear on its own after 30 seconds or the target can break free. The egg can be rolled from there, but mysteriously, the egg will bounce off hazardous terrain to avoid someone getting rolled into a deadly spot. This attack operates on the same logic as those RPG spells that render a character invulnerable but also cost them a turn. Nothing can get in or out of the egg till the "turn" is over, which allows for either an escape on the outside or protection on the inside.
Flaws:
Luca is a murderer. The Chaonites she killed prior to this point were
