Aug. 25th, 2004 09:45 amI'm considering trying to get certified as an A.S.L. interpreter. I have a little more than two years of school in front of me, and I think I'd like to try this one.
- It's mainly quiet.
- I have to be fast of hand and mind, dexterity.
- While I have to listen, I can give my ears a rest. Using this sense can take up concentration better served elsewhere.
- I'm covered in case I go deaf which is a distinct possibility.
- I get to get back to improv, knowing how to use my face and body to convey context. I miss this.
- One thing I don't like, but is too useful to avoid, will be using a video cam to practice.
