I think, if you want to leave the country for a time, perhaps years, perhaps a lifetime, feel free to do so. Go with the blessings and support of your friends and family. We'll need sponsors and a constituency already in place if things get as bad as you fear they have, or will become.

I don't have a good historical backround to have a sense for when to leave, when to start making plans to go, so it's gentle and genuinely still safe. For myself, I have family here and I will not leave them, so the plans must include them.

For myself, I believe being an armchair citizen in terms of gov't, a gov't *by* the people, for which I have not put in the requisite hours, it's time to do so, again. I thought living my life helping others as they crossed my path was enough. Doing social justice work, staying close to creative folks was a good 'nuff way to live, having done a lot of social justice work in my teens.

No, it isn't, and I knew better, and so now it's past time to get to work.
