★ second card | video | day 43 - day
[ The screen snaps on to reveal your standard dormitory with not-so-standard decorations. The whole room is an indoor flower garden with plants littered along the sides of the room: a whole bunch of korean mums, tulips, these red beauties, and an assortment of other things. They're planted in all sorts of odds and ends. Broken pots, dishes, broken boots, any sort of salvageable pot-like thing. From the ceilings hang garlands of cherry blossoms.
It's the room of two little girls, including one who can magic flowers, trying to make the best of a scary place! And soon, a face pops up too close to the screen, two green eyes overwhelming the screen before Sakura backs up. Despite the brightness of the scenery behind her, there's an uncertain expression on her face. ]
I haven't been away from home this long since our school trip to the mountains. [ She blinks. ] But then, it doesn't seem like two days... it feels like a whole week-- or two!
[ A pause. ]
It was a Thursday when I left home. Today--- it would be Saturday, and my Dad would have cooked egg omelettes and I'd make pancakes covered with strawberries and syrup. My brother would steal one of my pancakes, even if I gave him extra, so I'd yell at him and he'd call me a monster. And then I'd step on his foot!
[ Slowly, her smiles falls to a frown. She bites her lip as her eyes start to water. ]
But I'd give him a hug if I saw him now. And Dad.
[ Sakura tries to dry away her tears with her hand, but she only starts to cry harder. It takes her a few moments before she swallows a sob and looks up at the camera, tears and all. ]
I'm sorry, I shouldn't cry! [She smiles faintly. ] Why-- why don't you tell me about your families? Since we're all here together, we should be friends.

There's not really anything to say about my family, but I'll tell you about someone I miss, if you like.
Please.
Mmm... well, her name is Aigis. She's looked after me for a long time; years before I realized she existed. She's a robot, actually... but after a while she developed feelings, and is as human as anyone else. I miss her a lot. She's very brave and kind.

Hey, don't worry! I'm sure you'll get to see them again soon.
And I'll definitely be your friend!

Well, it's a sad little girl separated from her family, and Kaidan, like many soldiers, has a soft spot for kids. He takes a moment to be sure that any hint of the murderous rage at KERNOS for dragging children into this is well-hidden from his features, and sets up a video link with a reassuring smile.]
There's nothing wrong with crying if you need to, y'know. Especially when you're stuck away from your family -- I was maybe a little bit older than you are when I had to leave mine for a while. It was-- pretty hard, and maybe I cried a little too.
Video:
[ His smile does reassure her, and she summons her own bright one despite her tears. At least, if she's in a place with many kind people. That's something to be happy about, isn't it? ]
Even if we're apart, my family wouldn't want me to be sad.

[He's not sure how to cheer her up, but he knows he wants to try.]
Um. Those flowers...they're really pretty.
[ Just those nice words helped. ]
Menma-chan and I, we wanted to brighten the room.

It's okay to cry. We all cry sometimes.

You love them, that will not change. Your memories of them still exist, so they are still with you, in your heart.

[ She repeats, then places a hand over her heart. Just hearing these strangers reassuring words...
She smiles. ]
Thank you.

Feeling strangely helpless, he studies the brilliant array of bright petals and greenery, an all-too heartbreaking assertion -- demanding the recognition of beauty and innocence in this dark, cruel place.
It's almost enough to bring tears to the eyes. Orsino offers the child a smile that hides that sudden welling of grief, the same smile he'd given so many of the children newly arrived to the Gallows.]
It's ... beautiful, child. I don't think I've seen so many flowers in my life.

Menma-chan and I-- we wanted everyone to see them, so that maybe... maybe if they were feeling scared or alone, they'd know there's always a reason to smile.
[ Alas, she didn't mean to cry and make people worry! A light blush lights her cheeks, as she clasps her hands together. ]
I'm glad you like them, sir.

voice;
Oh no! Your daddy would be so upset if he saw you dripping tears all over, wouldn't he?
voice;
He wouldn't like me to be sad, which is why I'm not going to cry anymore!
