[ video : week 16 day 2 ]
[ The feed shows some easily recognizable place on deck, that looks relatively peaceful with the sun out. Kanda is sitting cross-legged behind a box that he's apparently using as a desk. He's looking at the camera very seriously. This is a great plan. ]
For a bunch of overpowered kidnappers, these guys seem to be quite fond of office procedures. That's why this is worth a shot.
[ He holds up what appears to be a few sheets of paper clipped together; the title page seems to be a petition written and filled by rather nice (Lavi's) handwriting, with a couple of names (Kanda's own first, obviously) and plenty of empty space below the 'signed' field. While these official request forms never really worked back home (re: suggestion to fire everyone who complains about life) for some reason, there's nothing to lose. ]
Here I have a petition for adding better quality food to our supplies. I intend to present it to this new Project Head.
[ That might only end well, considering the last person approaching him in an aggressive manner got brutally killed. If you're looking at the page closely enough, you'll see that the 'better quality food' only includes instant soba noodles. Priorities. ]
Public support is needed to make a petition successful. I expect everyone who doesn't have a strange affection for canned corn to sign it.
You know where to find me.
[ And done. ]

Can I get a representative to sign in my place? [pens + her = disaster]

[ Kanda considers it for a moment, then shrugs lightly. He assumes it's someone
evenless literate than himself, but that's no reason to refuse them noodles. ]I suppose. Or you could just put down an "X"...

[Then he looks at the petition.]
Uh...wait. Wouldn't that be the same 'only one type of food' issue?
no subject
Absolutely not.
[ Besides, who could complain about having to eat soba all the time anyway? There's no such thing as too much soba. It would pretty much turn this hell into heaven. ]

It's a possibility. They can hardly do worse than what we have now.
[ Unless they decide to not give them any food at all. That would suck more than the corn. Still, that's not very likely unless they suddenly switch their research to finding out how quickly do people die from starvation. ]

You do know that noodles alone wouldn't make for better meals, right? People need more kinds of food than just starchy pasta and corn.
[audio]
Of course it would.
[ He almost looks offended. And then, suddenly, shoots a rather logical one. ]
Pasta and corn is still better than just corn.

If we sign, can we include a food we like on the list?

[ Kanda considers it for a moment. ]
They're less likely to listen to bigger demands.

He claimed he'd like working with us.

[ And soba is worth that much. So was the movement to fire whiny workers from the Order, such a shame it didn't get anywhere... you'd think he'd learn. ]
It's better than doing nothing.
[ Is that a jab at you, General? It might be. Although it's also true that Kanda is pretty much sick of having time all the time. The schedule here is much more lax than back home and it makes him restless. ]

Are you certain it's not truly a petition for the addition of soba to be made?
[ video ]
I didn't fucking stutter. That's what it is.
[ Because soba is better quality food. So, the addition of one means the addition of other, right? Good. ]
