001 | Voice | Week 11, Day 1

[Welp last week sure was a wake-up call. Rail's had her suspicions about COMPASS ever since she first showed up, but now it was pretty clear now why she was brought here in the first place. The torture was pretty unpleasant to listen to, although Rail already knows how to tune out the sound of screaming. What really shook her up was hearing COMPASS outright call them test subjects, throwing around the word "experiment"...

So they really were here just to be lab rats and that's it?]

Wow, they sure were angry at us, weren't they? What was with that thing in the labcoat? It wasn't human, but it was also a scientist?

[Her voice is calm, but it's barely hiding the seething anger and disgust ~~and fear~~ she's feeling. It didn't make any sense to her, but then again did it really matter? It's not like scientists really cared what their test subjects were - just as long as they could run their experiments. It made her feel sick, thinking that she'd have to return to being a lab rat again.

I can't. I can't I won't. Please don't make me go back to that please...

She doesn't let that fear show. She learned long ago how to scowl in face of scientists even when completely terrified. She'd turn that fear into hate, and then just blow them all up - every single person working for COMPASS.

...Speaking of which.]

...All of my bombs were stolen. Does that new store sell anything I can use to make some more?

They took away or destroyed everything we ever took from stores in this place. Another punishment for whatever we didn't do according to their rules.

Everything, huh? Well isn't that a problem. If I can make some more bombs, I'd like to pay them back for taking mine.

I'm not sure it's wise to say such things over a device they can monitor.

If they come to get me that just makes it easier then me trying to find them. I just gotta make sure to have plenty of bombs by then, haha!

And if the bombs fail to put a dent in them?

I'll have a backup plan in case they don't!

[She's just...gotta think of one. It's hard to come up with strategies that don't involve bombs!]

I guess it doesn't matter since they act the same. Haha! So what was that thing supposed to be anyway?

That's not really helpful, you know. But it doesn't seem like anyone knows much about what they are anyway. I don't really care myself as long as it can get blown to pieces!

[She says this very cheerfully.]

That's what I like to hear! [Because it'd really suck if that thing was immortal.] Though I don't know if...whatever that thing is plans on coming back anytime soon.

I wouldn't trust on it being easy to get to.

How was it not human? What did it look like, can you tell me?

Uhh...

[She didn't get a good enough look at it to really give a detailed description, but she does remember a couple of things about it.]

It had all these wiggling, worm-like things attached to the bottom of it instead of legs. And it had these long, antenna things sticking out of its head with eyes on them.

[Leo is furiously taking notes and making half-finished sketches before moving onto the next piece of information and the next half-finished sketch.]

This creature sounds like an insect.

If it was an insect, I could just squash it. But the rest of it looked pretty human otherwise.

No, no, no, you misunderstand. It sounds like an insect. It has the qualities of an insect, but also human. It's from imagination, almost.

...I guess it kind of looks like an insect? It had the eye stalks like one, definitely. The bottom half of it looked like an octopus.

[That scritch-scritch-scritch noise? That's him redoing yet another sketch.]

Interesting, very interesting. A strange combination of creatures, but this city has little mind for what is considered strange.

[Okay she can't ignore that sound any longer.]

They're all rather unfinished, but I can show you soon, if you like.

"All?" How many have you been working on since you got here?

I have to go out to grab some new clothes, so I could check out the store while I'm out if you want? ((He doesn't know how to make bombs he wouldn't know what to look for in the first place.))

...Nah, it's okay. I can go myself and look. All I need is gunpowder and it's probably not that hard to find.

I dunno about that. They're not exactly giving when it comes to means to defend ourselves.

...Yeah, I noticed. They took everything I had on me before they locked us in on campus.

((Makoto sighs. Fortunately for him, he only had the things he brought with him from the start but--)) Yeaah, sounds as though you weren't the only one. Sturmhond had a lot of his supplies ravished, too.

I don't know what they expect us to do, whoever's in charge here. They open shops for us, and then call us thieves for trying to use what we can. Geez...

That's because they're assholes, probably afraid of us too. And they should be, 'cause I know what I'd like to do to them after they stole all of our stuff and did those weird experiments.

Afraid..? You really think so?

Yeah, I mean, if they're so brave, how come we don't see them hanging around that often? It's just been that weird insect guy with the labcoat, right? So that means they're totally scared of us.

Ah! I guess you're right. I never really thought of it like that. I guess I'd be pretty scared, too; there's gotta be at least a hundred of us here.

((Makoto you're scared of everything, of course you would be.))

Right?! I bet that insect guy is scared of showing his face around the rest of us! He's probably cowering in fear thinking about all the stuff we'd do to him if we caught him.

[ ...Wait, what? What's a little girl doing with bombs? ]

All your bombs?

All of 'em. Even the really nice ones I had. Those weren't easy to get you know!

Bombs?

That's what I said. I had a bunch of 'em on me but they were stolen last week.

What kind?

Doesn't really matter. I'd like ones I can carry on me, but I'm not too picky about what kind of bombs they are either. Like I said, my supply's at zero right now.

Of course it does matter. What was taken from you is immediate ammunition that COMPASS now has. Knowing what it is exactly will be helpful.

[Ohh. Oh, he's talking about the bombs that were already stolen from her.]

Huh? Oh, well I had different kinds of me before they were stolen - some of them smoke bombs, the other ones were these smaller bombs I kept in my pockets. Kinda looked like egg-shaped.
