Week 17, Day 7 || T E X T
[ Sam usually prefers to keep to himself, but in matters like this, he realizes it's not just him at stake. Following the network on and off and spending more time than is healthy for anyone to have a relative grasp of sanity has given him some disturbing ideas about the situation, ones that he thinks anyone who hasn't stared at books for days should also be privy to. That and a nap make it easier to share. ]
If you haven't visited the library recently, you might not have noticed that the books have stopped shifting. Well, they have, and what we've been making out is pretty far out there.
There are numerous mentions of chaos, an existence that we wouldn't be able to comprehend, and most of all The Great Old Ones. If you're not familiar with Lovecraft, they're references to a whole pantheon of ancient deities that exist in some nether region of the universe. They're immaterial cosmic horrors that can't be fully explained. Heard of Cthulhu? Then you know what I'm talking about. These things, at least in Lovecraftian lore, only bring chaos, destruction, and insanity. There's no mentions of Cthulhu or any canon creatures, specifically, bad it's bad news all around.
I'm not sure what COMPASS is trying to tell us with this. Are these the Gods that the cult is worshiping? I know someone mentioned they aren't affiliated with COMPASS, but considering how eager they are to sacrifice us for their cause, they can't be up to anything good.
I know "At the Mountains of Madness" isn't exactly what we're looking at, but it's way too similar to be a coincidence, if you ask me. Now that we've got this information, we should do something with it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

[Lucifer only sounds mildly interested, but given his generally blase nature that was about as eblnthusiastic as he was likely to be.]
Do be careful, Sam.
Oh, and if you spot something named Eve, don't mention the family business.

Not to take the wind out of your sails, but do you really think we can do anything with this information? Knowing may be half the battle, but if these things are as bad as you've described, everything we have to use now won't even make a dent. Immaterial anything tends to make for a difficult target to eliminate.

[different strokes, and so on.
Then again, the description is almost like a scaled-up version of witches and what they do, in a way. Curses. Despair.
Bad news indeed]
Is there some method to fight or resist them, if it comes to that?

You're talking about gods.
Were you expecting something other than chaos, destruction and insanity? In my experience, that comes along with the name.

It's pretty par for the course given the circumstances, but what I was hoping is that something could be done about it.

The library is accessible and readable? Do you need more help looking into the books there?
There may be more references, maybe to the followers themselves that we could address more easily than a more abstract and overwhelming concept like these gods.
[And at least reading quickly and processing information is something he's good at and can be done without expending too much physical effort just yet.]
[Text]
[ Really, it feels endless. ]
Yeah. I agree. It doesn't seem like we have great PR with them as it stands, but I'm starting to think that's the best alternative.

On the bright side, they'll probably all get eaten. Worshipping that kind of thing doesn't end well for anyone.
