001 | Video | Day 2
[ The video opens to show a young, dark-haired man, who peers dubiously at the lens. Behind him is one of the classrooms, still in a state of disrepair. He's new; he'll deal with that later. After a moment he seems to decide the camera is working, because he smiles, and tries to look as though it's not ridiculous to talk to an object no larger than a Nuremberg egg. ]
Hello. Apparently, I'm now talking to all of you. Even the ones I haven't met, which seems unlikely. But I'll take their word for it.
My name is d'Artagnan, of Lupiac in Gascony. This is my friend, Athos. [ He turns his camera, somewhat awkwardly, to take in a second face - this one slightly older, handsomely bearded, and looking less than thrilled to be here. ] We've just recently joined your-- [ He glances around, eyes taking in the cracked ceiling, and the vines poking through the window - ] fine community, here. I must say we've been housed in a quality establishment. Though, I like the running water. That part's actually impressive. [ At this point he pauses, and there’s silence as though he’s waiting for something. He lets out a little sigh. ] Athos, say hello.
Unless you're asking about the whereabouts of the nearest tavern, I want no part of this. [ He crosses his arms, glances away almost nonchalantly. Athos’ own eyebrows lift. Introductions, d’Artagnan? Honestly. ] After all, you’re the one who thought it best.
[ D’Artagnan gazes at him while he speaks, and then briefly rolls his eyes. Really, Athos, now is not the time. ]
That’s because we’re new. It won’t kill us to be polite, and I can’t see any better way to get the answers we need.
[ From behind him there’s a scoffing noise, a grunt because who has time to be polite when they’ve been taken by surprise and kidnapped? Deciding to move on, d’Artagnan brings his wandering eye back to the camera, and his smile returns. ]
We were wondering if any of you could tell us where we might sharpen our swords. I've not seen a blacksmith thus far, and given the enemies at the door, I’m assuming you have one. Beyond that, if anyone could direct us to the local Garrison, we’d like to report for duty. We’re new here, but keen to help however we can. [ He pauses, glances at Athos again, and then adds with some reluctance: ] And I suppose it wouldn’t hurt if you could tell us where the tavern is, too.
[ For a moment that seems to be all, and the camera jostles as if he's going to turn it off. Then he hesitates, thins his lips into a line, and looks up again. ]
One more thing. If Monsieur David [ It’s the only name he has for you, all right? ] is listening to this, I'd like to apologise again, and ask your forgiveness. I was in the wrong, and shouldn't have threatened you. I give you my word, it won't happen again.
[ And finally, he ends the feed. ]
* Black is d’Artagnan; Red is Athos.

You saw the chaos when were arrived. It's a town overrun by religious fanatics. Politics has little place.
[ We're probably going to be burnt at the stake, fyi. ]
action
They're under siege, Athos. I can see that easily enough. They need our help, there are children here.
We can't just stand aside.
[ They need to find a way home, yes, of course. But these people are in clear danger, and surely their wellbeing has to come first? ]
of course it's action, don't be dumb like he's going to use the creepy pocket watch
but the technology is ingenious, athos!
it's weird and he doesn't like it.

I search for honour, and to give aid where it is needed. That is always my duty, my lady Targaryen.
he really should learn
X( no it's confusing and possibly also witchcraft
it might be magic... she hasn't ruled this out

[ D'Artagnan pauses, a thread of amusement creeping into his voice. ]
I didn't expect that to offend anyone. Clearly, I was mistaken.

Had we known we would take a trip such as this we would have packed much better.

You're the blacksmith. [ Maybe the blacksmith's daughter. Either way, d'Artagnan looks pleased enough. This is the best news he's had thus far. ]
The latter might be easier. I haven't much to trade, Mademoiselle, though if there's something you need I can search for it.

Athos. There were two others with us, but there's been no sign of them here.

Oh well, clearly, the two of you would be very happy together.
I'm being told about a Speakeasy, but I don't know what use it would be. They say it's not always open. Even more reason to like where we've landed, I think.

[ Clearly a foreign word to d'Artagnan, but given that it's apparently neither of the things he wants it to be, he assumes it has something to do with drinking. ]
Is that what they call a tavern here? I can't imagine why. Do you know where it is?

A friend told me about something called a speakeasy, with drinks and dancing.
She said it only opens up once in a while.

[Swords? Seriously? What the hell would that do against a tommy gun?] I can't help you bury yourselves in a bottle but there's a fellow around here named Sturmhond who can probably help you with the swords. Or you might be able to turn up a whetstone somewhere.
voice;
We could use balls and gunpowder as well, if they're to be got. [ He raises one of his pistols into view. He'd already used a considerable amount of ammunition just to get to campus, so yes, at present the sword's his priority. ]
Otherwise, I thank you for your help, Mademoiselle. I don't suppose you know where the garrison is, as well?
[ Because oddly enough, you seem the type who might know. He's never seen a woman who looks so much like a soldier. Times have changed, clearly. ]
