VIDEO; Week 18; Day 5
[ Sup, Zelien, this here smiling warmly into the camera is Actual Prince Charming David Nolan, and he has a good amount of word vomit to deliver. ]
Hi there. My name’s David. Or... Charming. Depending on who you’re talking to. [ A pause, and he’s looking a little awkward and distracted, murmuring for a second. ] Wow, that sounds really conceited out of context. I promise I didn’t assign myself that one.
[ He clears his throat, moving on. ] Anyway, you might have met some of my family already. Mary Margaret, my wife, Emma, my daughter, and Henry, my grandson. Also, Neal, Henry’s dad, and Gold, his other grandfather-- [ He didn’t want to leave anyone out, but god, this list will take forever. Not what he’s here for. ] Nevermind.
I just wanted to let you guys know, you might have heard Mary Margaret talking about trying to get a school running before, and I’m planning on helping her with that. [ You know, Actual Disney Princess Snow White, that lady. ] We’ll be offering a lot of survival skills, and really, anything we can help you with. If you need to learn how to work with modern technology, how to build something useful, cooking, or how to hunt and survive in the wild, or if you just want something to keep yourself busy. We’re here for you.
[ A pause, and he looks a little hesitant, not sure he really wants to go into this, but the whole Hero part kicks in, and his voice turns soft, sincerity practically bleeding from the words. ] Another thing… that I wanted to mention. I know a lot of you have been here a long time; years, even. And I know things have been rough - really rough.
But it’s important that you don’t let go of hope. [ Look at his conviction. Look at it sparkle. ] When everything is looking bleak and impossible, that’s going to be what gets us through it - hope that we’ll manage, and that we can go on, and we’ll survive it, and one day, we’ll get home and back to our lives. I know it’s not easy, but we have to have faith in ourselves and what we can do, or we’ll just be stagnating - sitting here and just enduring, and that’s no way to live. Maybe you’ll be risking disappointment, but isn’t it better to have a chance? [ Voice sort of pleading with the last, lips pressed together and a furrow in his brow. There’s not really any righteousness in it or moral flaunting, just genuine wanting to help. It might be a little overkill, though, but hey, Prince Charming here. ]
We’re not in this alone, and as long as we’re relying on each other and covering each others’ weaknesses, we’re not helpless either. Those of you that have been here longer - you know COMPASS, you have experience, and that gives you an advantage. If one of us is feeling down, or lost, or suffering, let’s cover for them. Even if it’s just giving someone to talk to for a while. We can keep each other strong.
[ A sigh, and there’s some finality in that. He said his piece, and he’s expecting he might be inviting some criticism, but to David, it’s worth it if even one person is a little more hopeful. He’s that kind of gross heroy. ]
That’s it. Sorry, it got a little long. [ an awkward chuckle here ] Anyway, if anyone needs anything, or is interested in coming to school, just let me or Mary Margaret know. We’ll be happy to help. Anytime, for anything.
Thanks.

You speak like a leader, Monsieur David. Is that something you have brought from your home with you? [ TELL HIM WHAT YOU ARE. ]
video;
[ He tilts his head a little, thinking about it. He doesn't like tooting his own horn, but... ] Something like that. I was something like a sheriff in the town I came from. [ Emma was THE sheriff, he just helped out. ]

I was getting there, but the list was getting pretty long and I didn't want people to have too many things to be annoyed with me for. Excessive options can be difficult, you know.

Re: [VIDEO]
video; I'm sorry
All this love and hope talk is making me sick. Time for a reality check, Princey. COMPASS will make you too tired to hope after awhile.
video; never be sorry <3
I've lost a lot of things in my life, but hope has never been one of them. How long have they had you here?

[ That is so cool. Scott's her biggest fan, by the way. ]
I talked to her about her school. It seemed like a good idea.
You're right, about hope? But it's too late for a lot of people here. They've been waiting for a long time. They probably won't go easy on you for saying what you did, so. I'm sorry, in advance of that.
video
[ and he's so gd happy to be. she is his gem okok, her and emma ]
Well, she spent 28 years being a school teacher, so I think she'll have a pretty good handle of it.
{ oh scott bb. let him sparkle at you for a second ] It's never too late for hope. The people in my town - they waited 28 years to find their happy endings again. And when they finally got it, it was worth hanging on to that hope. Not ever day will be fantastic, and not even most of them will be - but you have to look for those moments. You have to hold on to them and hope tomorrow will be just a little bit better.

He's not lacking in belief that he'll get out of this, though, so he leaves that alone. Instead he focuses on what's really important here. ]
Your name is Charming? I can't imagine why you didn't tell me that before.
video
It's a name someone who didn't like me very much to begin with gave me. Just kind of stuck, really.

[A little too sweet and sentimental for his tastes.]
Though I'm not sure what else to expect from a man who is actually named Charming.
Video
I try. And actually, it's David. For a while it was James too. The person who gave me 'Charming' wasn't that thrilled with me at the time, but it kind of stuck.

She didn't, actually. [ snow, we gonna talk ] Are most of the drugs going to the patients in this one?
[ #low blow oops, but at least he's doing something good here, so ] I'll make sure we refer some people over. First aid isn't a bad thing to know for any situation.

What can you teach, Mr. Swan?

{ And.... Mr. Swan.... Well, it's not like they had last names in the Enchanted Forest, and Regina gave him 'Nolan', so he'll just giddily accept that. He can totally share a last name with Emma ]
Well, what we mentioned before. Probably some sewing or stitching of necessities, we have someone trained in magic we might be able to get help from, any of the typical academic stuff - though I'm doubting that'll be as useful here. Hunting in the wilderness, living with less than modern means. How to avoid trouble. A lot of things for people not so used to a place like this.

When the new arrivals came this week, a lot of people were focused solely on getting all of them to safety any way they could. Even people who can't fight were waiting on campus, ready to lend their support. I know the arrivals were grateful, but it was a pretty exciting thing to be a part of, too. It goes to show that when we work together, we can really accomplish some amazing things.
We need to keep that up as long as we can, and I know we're capable of it. The only way COMPASS will win is if we give up now, and there's no way I'll let that happen.
video;
They were grateful - I should know, I was one of them. It was a warm welcome, as far as those on campus go. If nothing else, that should give us some measure of reassurance that we'll get through this.
It'll take more than just the two of us, though.
