【week 18; day 6】
[Look Zelien! A shock of red on the network, as Lloyd’s finally fixed his stupid jacket and is proud enough of his accomplishment to wear it despite it being 95° and humid. But that’s not why he’s turned his watch on today; he’s got his game face on – or some approximation thereof.]
So these… rift things. They’re the same things that appeared a while back, right? Before we were all taken to that Salem’s Lot place. Does it… always mean the same thing? Are we gonna get taken off to some crazy place all over again?
[This, folks, is an example of someone asking a question they already know the answer to. He presses on anyway.]
… I dunno if we’ll have to go through that this time, or if it means winding up in that stupid village again. But we’ll be fine so long as we focus on keeping each other safe. Besides, if it’s the same place, we’ll know what to look out for! [He starts listing everything on his fingers as he speaks:] We should be able to avoid a lot of trouble if we stay away from that huge inn; I think it did some weird stuff to people. If you arrive in the mist, try to find someone to travel with. I remember hearing that the sewers were bad, I think there was some kind of creepy mill that had monsters in it, and there was some lady who turned into a giant monster rat…
[Oops. He’s probably not supposed to talk about that.] That is, uhhh… oh! Avoid these huge metal things called “cars!” They’re really dangerous and can’t be killed!
[For real, dog. COMPASS comes up with the craziest things.] I’m sure there was a lot of other stuff to avoid there, too, but so long as we continue working together, I think we can handle anything COMPASS throws at us. We’ll be ready this time.

As far as I can tell, we go some place different each time--probably because we won't know what we're getting into. We went on a space ship before we went to that town.
[Even he uses the word "creepy" to describe the place... And she also avoids mentioning the whole lady becoming a rat thing.
As for the "cars"?]
"Cars"? Were they those metal things that were sleeping all over the place?
no subject
[Deflaaaates.] So I guess we'll never know where we'll end up. Man...

[Not just split up, split up, but some had been changed then, too and attacked COMPASS' "guests".
Seeing him deflate, she shakes her head in agreement.]
No. We don't. [Sorry, Lloyd.] They just like to throw us in and see what happens.
[!]
You were attacked?! Were you two all right?
video;
We don't know where we'll end up, though. If it's going to be anything like that mist getting us all lost and disorganized...
[ But hey- ]
Did you run into a rat lady, Lloyd? You never mentioned that part.
video;
[He's probably doing this exact pose like a nerd btw.]
video;
... Uh. N-not technically, no. I mean, it wasn't me, but I saw her-- kind of, I mean, I was running at the time so I didn't get a great look but... she was dangerous, so just avoid her if you ever see her!
video;
[ Not as bad as certain people, but just enough to be twitchy about it. And she's smirking, so he should know it's a joke- but at his next words, she can't help but press........... ]
That's interesting, because a friend mentioned a big male rat... or weasel or something. She was pretty freaked out about it, too, though she wouldn't tell me why. Strange, huh?

[He really hoped the kid didn't meet her under the same circumstances he did. They were actually the same age, but this guy seemed so much younger.]
I hope we don't end up there again, but even if we end up somewhere else, I doubt it's gonna be good. Also, cars...aren't supposed to be evil. Where I'm from they can't do anything on their own, they're just machines. Of course, this is COMPASS, so I guess it's too much to hope for that we might get some cars that are just normal vehicles.
video;
Whoa—wait, no, it wasn’t me! [sldkfjls] By the time she was a rat, she was chasing after a friend of mine! I swear it!
[He’s telling the truth, so why does it feel like the more he protests, the more it seems like he’s lying? Augh.]
A-anyway, the cars… I’m confused as heck about what they’re supposed to be, but you make a pretty good point. COMPASS takes just about anything that’s supposed to be normal and messes it up big time.

You've never seen cars before coming here?

If we get swallowed by another rift,
it's likely everywhere you go, you'll run into something bad.
There's no avoiding it.
[ Not unless he wants to curl up into a miserable ball and hide in a corner, and even then, he's sure something is going to find him and grab him. ]

They've appeared once before that as well. We're likely to end up in a new place with new dangers.

[Possible meaning definitely, but he's hopefully optimistic.]
But there's a ton of new people who haven't experienced these rifts at all, or what they mean, or what kinds of places COMPASS takes us to. Even if it's not the exact same, they deserve to know a bit about what to expect, don't you think?
[Especially the car part.]

[video]
Have you ever been transported back to the same place twice before?
[video]
I dunno if we'll end up back at the same place, but if we are, at least some of us will know what to look out for, more or less.

[Lloyd isn't wrong. Equius is just remembering things in the wrong order.]
Either way, it's never quite the same.

Even if we don't end up at that other place, at least we can have an adventure!
[ and then, you know. Die a tragic, senseless death. But why dwell on the things one can't avoid? ]
