You can probably tell I'm still new around these parts. Is there another way to describe monsters appearing out of nowhere, raining from the skies and devouring anyone/anything in their path?
I think we call those Thursdays. Or Mondays, Tuesdays…any day of the week, really. Usually not Sunday, it tends to be over by then. Say what you like about monsters, but they do tend to like their weekends.
Oh, I'll bet. They just want some good clean fun after a bloody (literally, in this case) week of hard work butchering people. How were you holding up through all that, friend?
Sorry, I seem to have forgotten my manners at the expense of banter- I'm Henry.
[ Not unscathed, but he’s alive. Considering what’s happening around them, that’s probably better than he could have hoped for.
And even despite it all, he still almost responds to that question with a lie. At the last minute, he doesn’t. He’s not hiding anymore, after all. He’d made that decision a week ago.
Best hold to it. ]
I’m Nikolai. A pleasure to meet you, Henry, though it’s a shame you’ve wandered directly into this. I think you might have caught us at something of a bad time.
What’s your position, and do you need assistance? I’m assuming you’d have asked already if you did, but in the interest of manners and all that.
Pleasure is all mine, Nikolai. I've done a fair share of wandering into bad situations, so it's quite all right.
I am currently somewhere in the city, looking for provisions. The only assistance I could ask for is during the heat of battle, which in most cases it would be too late. What sort of measures has everyone taken to fighting off the hordes? I've only come across a few so far, but nothing serious or difficult to exterminate.
[ If only it were so easy. He doesn’t feel like they’re truly fighting. They’re just doing their best to stay alive, in awful circumstances. ]
Guerilla style works best, given our situation, and try not to take them alone. Work in groups. And don’t help the Cultists, whatever you do. They may be offering their friendship now, but it won’t last. They’ve been trying to kill us for as long as we’ve been here.
On the offchance one of them challenges you, a sword will work better than a gun. Let me know if you need weapons, I have a stockpile. I’m sending you our position, in case you get tired of your own.
Ah, damn those cultists. It's always the religious fanatics, isn't it?
It's a good thing I'm packing a sword then, isn't it? Don't worry about the weapons department, I think I'm well off with what I have, but thank you for the generosity. I'll keep that in mind though in case I'm in a pinch.
[He goes over the coordinates briefly.]
Again, thanks for the warm welcome. It's quite nice, having some help time to time.
A swordsman? Well, I’m glad to hear it. We’ve a shortage of those. I’m a swordsman myself. Far better in a place where ammunition is finite, and all the more so now that I can’t make it anymore.
Do stay in contact. We’ll try to coordinate as best we can. You can appreciate it’s difficult, in these circumstances.

[ Apocalypses tend to involve a great deal of death, and he has absolutely no intention of being a casualty. ]
Let's not give them more credit than they're due, please.
