[The camera turns on to show a moving creature, it appears to be one of the rats, and it's scurrying away.]

Oh, um, excuse me, sir! Please don't run away, I didn't mean to frighten you!

[And Fluttershy actually seems to be following the rat. She ends up following it into a corner in one of the abandoned shops, where she crouches down a few feet away to give it plenty of space.]

There there, I'm not going to hurt you. See?

[Is that... actually a normal volume? Oh sweet jesus it is. But now that she's getting an eyeful of this rat...]

Oh my goodness. Um, no offense, but you don't seem to be feeling very good.

[She doesn't know rats from back home. Only mice. Meanwhile, this lovely specimen of rat is eyeing her in a very unnerving sort of way.]

Oh no, you haven't been treated very gently, have you, little mouse?

[The rat raises up on its hind legs and makes an unpleasant noise, like a chitter and a hiss. Still in a kind, compassionate voice:]

Now that's not very polite. I'd just like to take you home and nurse you back to health.

[And the rat lunges forward, sinking its teeth into her shin. With an alarmed squeak, Fluttershy sprawls back onto her butt, then scoots quickly away from the rat.]

I-I'm sorry, sir, I didn't mean to-- [The rat makes that terrible noise again, and Fluttershy squeaks again, gets up, and takes off running. After a few seconds of running, I guess she realizes the camera's on, because:]

I'm very sorry that you had to see that. I'm okay, so, um, if it's not too much trouble, please don't be too upset at him. I don't think it was my business, anyway.

[ALL REPLIES will come after a slight delay and, if video, will take place... under a bed. Chimera's bed actually, it's kind of almost maybe safe under there.]

Why are you talking to a rat?

Well, um, it's just that he seemed a little bit... upset.

It's a rat.

Yes, um, I guess I was mistaken when I thought he was a mouse. You see, we don't have any rats back in Ponyville.

'Ponyville'? Is it like...a farm place?

[[She figures they raise ponies out in the country.]]

Well, there's a farm outside of the town.

How did I guess? Well, still. Just about everything here's nasty, I don't think talking to it's gonna work.

[Video since he's currently poking around the mall looking for food, but he couldn't help but to notice this when he was looking through the network.]

Are...you okay?

O-oh, Chimera! I'm okay. Really. [Have a soft smile.]

That's good. [He smiles a little in return.] I don't think they're senti-...erm, smart enough to understand what you were saying. [Or maybe the rat just didn't care. It probably just didn't care.]

That's not a very nice thing to say. I'm sure they're smart and lovely little animals, when they get better. I just need to, um, find out what's making them sick.

[Right now he's so very glad that he's good at suppressing his emotions. Otherwise he would just sigh and facepalm. But instead he just nods a little.]

Of course. Maybe you shouldn't get so close to them though, until you figure it out. Just so you don't get hurt.

Okay, I'll be very careful.

Good. [He smiles. Her being careful is really what's most important, after all. Even if she believes the rats can be communicated with...]

Do you need anything? Food? Clothes? [Since he's poking around the mall.]

[In her defense, why would she believe otherwise? Back home, the animals are pretty much sentient, and she reasons with them like children.]

I think I'm okay for right now. I don't want to trouble you.

[Just wait until she realizes you don't shower with your clothes on, she might need an extra set or two then.]

[Well, that would make sense then, if he knew that.]

It wouldn't be any trouble at all.

[He'll probably pick up some food he thinks she might like anyway. And some clothes for her. Just in case.]

[Yeah, back home she was kind of on a grass-leaves-and-apples diet, being a cartoon pony and all, so... this will be interesting.]

I'm okay, really.

[Which translates to 'I actually have no idea what to ask for so obviously that means I don't need anything'.]

Alright.

[He's still totally bringing her back things. Lots of fruits and stuff if he can, because he's not sure if she's ever eaten anything else. Maybe some lettuce...he doesn't really know. He's trying though.]

[There's a long pause before Edmund starts to speak; he's having a little trouble figuring out the smartphone. When his voice does finally start up, the tone is soft in an attempt to offer comfort.] Rats are nasty things, small and scurrying without any of the honour Mice have. It wasn't anything you did.

Rats... Then, um, if it's not too much trouble, do you know if there are any mice around? I haven't seen any, but maybe if there are they could set a good example for the rats.

I haven't seen any, no.

It might be prudent to simply avoid the rats entirely. You shouldn't trouble yourself with them.

But what if they just need to be shown a little bit of kindness?

I suppose it's in our best interest to eliminate "rational conversation" from things that work on the creatures this island hosts.

N-no, don't give up on them yet! I'm sure he was just having a bad day.

I think that by this point, it's pretty apparent to me that every day is a bad day for most of these creatures.

... stop apologizing.

[She goes to say she's sorry for apologizing, but then she closes her mouth again and looks almost bemused. After a second:]

But it's polite.

You shouldn't apologize when you have no reason to.

[Normally he might not want to comment but...]

Are you... actually trying to make friends with a rat?

[Well, if that wasn't familiar.]

Um, yes, please try not to take it personal- I think the animals here are sick. They haven't been very nice to me, either. That doesn't excuse the rude behavior, of course, but...well, are you all right?

[Oh goodness, finally someone who doesn't think she's cray-cray for trying to befriend the wildlife as per usual.]

O-oh, um, I'm just fine, please don't worry about me.

But... If they're sick, shouldn't we try to help them? There are lots of things we can try, like lots of rest and hot chicken soup.

[Don't worry Fluttershy, Luke will be your Snow White buddy.]

Are you sure? We have bandages and the like. Some of the animals might make you sick if they bite you.

[A beat. He...hadn't thought of that.]

I've never tried giving chicken soup to a mouse...the ones I've known preferred cookies and milk. Though, I'm sure we could try! [Smile time.] I'm Luke! If you need any help trying to help the animals get better, I'll do whatever I can!

[Oh man, you've just brought on Fluttershy's ~maternal voice~.]

Oh dear. No offense, but giving a poor, sick little creature sweets instead of soup and plenty of rest might even make them sicker! O-oh, I'm very sorry if that was rude.

I'm Fluttershy, and your help would be absolutely wonderful. It's always so much nicer not to do things alone.

Oh, I didn't mean giving them cookies to make them feel better...I've simply never given a mouse soup. I don't think he would have liked it very much. It's not rude at all, don't worry!

[Luke put on his ~puzzled~ face regardless.] Where could we get the components for soup...? The greenhouse?

Well, um... I'm not sure. You see, I haven't been here for very long, and I've been under here for most of it. [Seeing as she's currently hiding under a bed. Although she doesn't seem to be hiding anymore, so much as... camping?]

Oh, I see...I haven't explored much, either. Maybe we could go together! There's safety in numbers, right?

[Luke and Fluttershy, totally an intimidating pair.]

But... um, if it's okay with you, maybe we could wait to explore until we have... more numbers? If that's not too much trouble.

Oh! Are you okay?

[Have a bit of a loud, hair-rising giggle.]

If someone should be upset at "him", it ought to be you, isn't it?
