Enji had gone to the sports festival mostly to see how Shouto had developed, to see if he'd gotten ready to stop being a child and throwing tantrums. He had hoped that a bit of time at the school, in the Hero Course, would help the teenager realize just how important it was he follow the path he had been born for. The Sports Festival proved to him that Shouto wasn't ready yet, he was still trying to play rebellious, and Enji was feeling his patience run thin. However, he'd run into someone he hadn't expected.

He'd been informed of Midoriya Izuku making into the Hero Course, had assumed it was a fluke on the school's part and that Izuku would be flunked out or at least transfered to the general studies course by the time that the sports festival had come around. After all, a quirkless boy was hardly hero material.

Bu there he stood, in the same class as Shouto, a mess of dark green curls and freckles. He looked almost exactly like his mother. There was little to no sign that anyone else had had anything to do with Izuku's conception, and Enji had been glad of when the boy was born. It would hardly look good for his reputation if the public found out he'd been drawn in by a pair of pretty green eyes and made a mistake he couldn't undo.

He had tried of course. Had offered Midoriya Inko money when she'd first contacted him after that one night. Paying for an abortion wouldn't look good either but he could hide a single payment far more easily than child support. It hadn't happened though, he'd known it as soon as he offered it to her, the stubbornness in water green eyes, the set of her jaw, he could demand but he knew then and there that Inko wouldn't do as he wanted.

She wasn't what he looked for in a mother for his children. Her quirk was weak, lowlevel telekinesis at best, and she'd done nothing with it since childhood. Pretty as she was, her ability was just not promising, and looking back at her family history, he knew nothing powerful would come of her genetics.

Still, there was a chance a child could have something promising. Certaintly it couldn't be what he wanted most in an heir, no child born from him and Midoriya Inko would have the power to surpass All Might, but something could be made of them.

The only time he met Midoriya Izuku the boy was four years old, nearing five, and had no quirk to speak of. Inko had explained they'd gone to the doctor, had him checked out and while very healthy, he was quirkless. She promised she'd not used his name, nor had she told the doctor anything that could track back to him.

Izuku was so small, tiny in a way that only Touya had been. Enji had stared down at the small green haired child who hid behind his mother's skirt, and peaked up at him with unsure, but curious green eyes, and Enji had known he'd have no use of the boy.

Through the years he paid child support, sent money to the Midoriya's to pay for anything they might need. Inko sent him regular updates on Izuku, how he was doing, school reports, a photo every now and again. Enji burned most of it after reading it- best there be no evidence left. He did, however, keep a few of the photos hidden away in his desk at work, locked up where no one would see them. Be it for sentimental reasons or something else, he didn't know.

As far as he had known, there had been no change in Izuku's status as Quirkless. Yet when he'd carefully questioned Shouto about the boy, he was met with confusion and suspicion. He opted not to press it and risk causing more issue with Shouto. Instead, Enji did something he hadn't done in a while, not since Izuku had been deemed quirkless.

He called Inko.

She didn't have much to offer him. He had never shown signs of a quirk, had never mentioned anything to her about it- but he had been training, pushing himself so much. She was more worried about him than anything else.
