Choir Night
Feb. 23rd, 2026 10:29 pmI'm so freaking tired. The cats are being manic.
Bella and Gracie were chewing on my hand brace. Dogs :)
I woke up around 6:30 AM, but I didn’t want to get up before my alarm. So I overslept it by a half hour. At least I can run a little later because I’m going to Physical Therapy at 9:50.
I rescheduled my PT appointment. I forgot to turn on the dryer and Gracie is refusing to come in and this morning is a mess. Well, Gracie came in. That’s a start. I'm learning that "self-care" often involves not scrambling. I went to get Oliver to feed him, but he gave me a sleepy look, so I guess not. He really likes it in Zara's room.
Hmm, I think that I want to wear my hand brace to work. I tend to curl that hand up when I'm not typing.
I can't stop yawning. And today is my long day because of choir rehearsal.
Gracie is going nuts over something out the window. She has no idea that she's a smaller dog. She thinks that she's tough.
Lily is giving my hand brace the onceover. Oliver decided that it was time to eat. He was a "lover boy" over lunch and attended my shower. He thinks that it's curious that I stick myself under water though.
My prairie seeds are on their way. Cool. I'm wondering if I should get some woodland seeds for the side of the garage, but I think that I'm getting too ambitious. Plus, I need to clean out that area and mulch it. Plus, I'll need to plant the lilac and crabapple and set up the vegetable planters. I'm looking for cheap dirt for the planters.
Ack about the temperature tonight, but at least I have a car with a heater. Sometimes it's the little things.
I tried to get a bit of fuzz off of Lily's fur, but she got annoyed and left. I just told Oliver that I don't want feline-managed acupuncture.
Huh. It was a bad day for the stock market but my stocks are up, except for Eli Lilly, which I'm considering dumping for Novartis.
Lily cautiously started to go into Zara's room, but she turned around as I went to leave. I want to get that gate (a gate to keep the dogs out with a cat door) soon.
The window in the guest room has a million dog nose prints in it. I just bought some great glass cleaner, so I should use it!
Ran around like crazy getting ready to leave for choir: letting the dogs out, feeding everyone, putting my makeup on, and grabbing my music. I managed to get there way early, which is what I had planned to have time to organize my music. It’s all together now. I was clearly missed while I was gone by the critters. Oliver is curled up on my lap. The little thief Bella stole a sock and grudgingly brought it to me. I explained that I need socks. She is not convinced.
My dad said that it sounds like I’m doing something right with my stocks and to “keep it up”. My big problem is finding time for research.
I’m kind of attracted to a young black cat who’s been in foster care for two years. Apparently, he doesn’t go up to new people, but that’s okay. But I’m a little worried about shaking up the status quo.
Sold some stocks and bought some stocks. I have time to do that only at night and weekends.
I should go to sleep soon so that I don't oversleep.

Daily Happiness
Feb. 23rd, 2026 08:03 pm1. Today was mostly a catching up day at work, since I had not only the weekend but the three business trip days last week where I wasn't really spending that much time on my regular work. I am all caught up now, though!
2. I also got my reimbursements submitted for the trip. The hotel and flight were paid through the travel agent who arranged everything, so I don't need reimbursements for those, but there's uber trips and per diems, so I should get reimbursed for those next week.
3. We have a couple cardboard cat loungers that are in pretty bad shape, and rather than get more cardboard ones, Carla ordered some sissel ones and those arrived today. Spritzed them with catnip spray to get the babies interested and so far they seem to like them.

request for recipes
Feb. 23rd, 2026 06:55 pmI would like to bulk up my store of recipes that travel and reheat well and are good for taking to other people, the "casserole for someone who's ill/grieving/up all night with a newborn" kind of thing. Casseroles and hearty soups are welcome, but also other kinds of one-dish meals that don't require much fiddling other than reheating.
In return, I can offer one of my own that fits this description:
White chicken chili

More Cleanup
Feb. 23rd, 2026 05:49 pmWay back in the mid-1960's my mother planted some rosemary. She deliberately chose a variety that would sprawl out and act as a ground cover. For a couple of decades she kept the plants sheered off at about 8 inches. Eventually some of them died and others rather insisted on growing taller than 8 inches. The survivors are between 2 and 3 feet tall. For fire safety they are supposed to be trimmed up off the ground. Unfortunately I've been very lax and trimming hasn't really gotten done in the last 4 years or so. It didn't much matter until the last couple of years when lots of rain encouraged lots of growth. Last week I began chopping back the bushes. All of them had reached the ground, rooted and were spreading out like a green wave. Perfect fire tinder and rodent cover. Today I finished the last bush. There is still some grass to pull, and as time goes on I hope to shape the middle bush a bit more, but everything is off the ground.

Day before yesterday I spent more than 5 hours clearing about 100 feet of the driveway. It had young live oak trees and blackberries muscling in onto the road. I cut back the young trees, poisoning the stumps, because live oaks never give up on regrowing. When that was done it was on to pulling out blackberries and poison oak. . I'm out of shape, by the end my arms were really, really tired. Road should be much nicer, with much better views of the pond.
Rain is supposed to start shortly and last for a couple of days. Once the storm is over I'll do the next 100 feet of the road. That part doesn't have much blackberry, but there is lots of poison oak and young trees. The trees need to go because they are a fire danger (think escaping down the road in a fire) and they create an incredible amount of leaf litter that has to be cleaned up in the fall.
One of the trees I cut back was a willow. It is 20 feet from the road, and I suppose I have no business touching it, but the owner of the pond clearly doesn't care at all, and my cut will produce lovely weaving materials for my basket making friends. While working I spoke to Melody, a lovely Pomo woman who was on the walk to get dogbane for basket weaving. She is coming down next Saturday. We will go and coppice or pollard some of the willow on Howell Creek. I just read up on the difference between coppice and pollard, coppicing means you cut the tree to within a few inches of the ground. Pollarding is any height above that. They both do the same thing, encourage the tree to grow tall, straight whips of new growth that are ideal for basket weaving and all kinds of other stuff.

Tuesday :: TV Episode Titles
Feb. 23rd, 2026 09:30 pmToday's theme is TV Episode Titles.
More Information: If you want to add the TV show the episode title comes from, that’s okay, but not necessary, unless you’re requesting the TV show that the episode title goes to.
This is a good site to find episode titles.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full name and fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ any, any, The Enemy Walks In (from Alias)
+ any, any, Wouldn't It Be Nice (from Brothers & Sisters)
+ any, any, Belly of the Beast (from Coach)
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community. Fret not, DW members; we are working on a way to search through old entries for prompts for you! As of right now, the best way to search for a lonely prompt on DW is to search the community’s archive, which can be found [[HERE]].
While the use of LJ's advanced search and DW’s archive are options, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching in the future.
As a friendly reminder about our schedule, Lonely Prompts and sharing completed fills are encouraged on Sundays, while new themes and prompts are posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day. We'll share our posts on DW and LJ for everyone's convenience. Keep an eye out for notifications!
If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so…and spread the word!
