Frequently Asked Questions

The following is basic information about GATE Overflow. Please read this before posting questions or answers if you are unfamiliar with this sort of forum. Click on any question to show or hide the answer.
  • What is the GATEOverflow site about?
  • GATEOverflow (hereafter referred to as GO) is a question-and-answer platform focused primarily on GATE CSE previous year papers with accurate solutions.

However, it also includes GATE question papers for other branches (refer to our network sites: EC, ME, EE, CE, BT, ES, IN, CH) as well as papers from exams like TIFR, ISRO, ISI, UGC-NET and CMI. Additionally, you can find GATE preparation strategies and interview experiences shared by senior community members.
  • Are soft copies/hard copies of all previous year GATE questions available?
  • Yes, soft copies are available for free download at: GATEOverflow/GO-PDFs: PDFs made from GATE Overflow site

Hard copies can be ordered via Amazon, depending on stock. GO prints a few hard copies every year and announces them. Interested users can order them.
  • Is there any charge for accessing or posting questions on GO?
  • No, the site is completely free. You can visit and comment on any question as many times as you like (kindly avoid repetitive comments). However, paid test series are also available on GO—whether to purchase them is entirely your choice.
  • Are any free tests available?
  • Yes, free tests are available to help you get familiar with the GATE exam interface. Here is the list of free available tests : List of Free Available Exams on GO
  • Are concept explanation notes/blogs for every subject available on GO?
  • Not for every subject. Some users have written blogs on various topics, explaining key concepts related to each one, but such notes are not available for all subjects. Here is the list of such notes/blogs: Notes/Blogs
  • Who manages the site?
  • GO is the brainchild of two IISc alumni. It was created to make all GATE-relevant questions and answers freely available to everyone. This is a non-commercial venture and runs through the donation of time and money by the admin team. Ads are allowed on the site to fund tasks like data entry, app development, etc., enabling the admins to focus on content quality.
  • How can I post a question on GO?
  • After creating an account, you can use the “ASK” button. However, there is a minimum points threshold required to post questions. If your points are below that threshold, your question will be published only after moderator approval. Once you cross the threshold, your posts will be published directly without moderation.
  • What kinds of questions can I ask here?
  • You should only ask questions relevant to GATE CSE. Before posting, ensure that a similar question hasn’t already been asked. You can search by title or use tag-based search, and a Google custom search is also available on the sidebar. All previous GATE questions from 1991 in CS & IT, and DA are already available on the site under the "Previous Years" tab.
  • What kinds of questions should be avoided?
  • Avoid questions not related to GATE CSE and copyrighted content. The responsibility for copyright violations lies with the user who posts such content. Also, when posting a question, make sure to mention your doubt or approach clearly—questions without this may be rejected by the admins.
  • What should I avoid in my answers?
  • GO is a Q&A site, not a discussion forum. Avoid debates in answers as they lower the content quality. For brief discussions or to thank someone, use the comment section instead (avoid repetitive comments).
  • Who moderates this community?
  • The short answer: you. GO is community-moderated. Through the points system, users earn rights to perform various moderation tasks.
