notes: for the pride & pussy prompt 'Any/Any: bruised ego'
There is nothing about this land—this forest—that Emma finds remotely enchanting. Not the magic, not the ogres, and certainly not the way she is so beyond out of her element.
Emma knows survival—intimately—she's scraped and scrapped her way into an understanding of the world and how it works.
Her world, anyway. This world—(the world she was born in. God, it's all so weird and fucked up.)—has a whole new set of rules.
“Watch yourself,” Mulan reaches out, halting Emma's thoughts and progression through the woods with a firm grasp and pointed look down at the underbrush. “That plant fights back.”
Emma shifts to the side to avoid trampling the thick vine.
“Thanks,” she grumbles, throwing a quick side-glance at Mulan before continuing on alone.
Mulan exudes a quiet confidence and overt competence that Emma misses in herself.
She's sure-footed while Emma is floundering.
But she can't say she's not grateful that Mulan and Mary Margaret know what they're doing—Emma's not used to relying on others, but it is better than being lost and alone.
It's just annoying as fuck.
She hopes Mulan sticks around though.
There are plenty of things Emma could learn from a woman like that.
