Playing with colour and texture. This is closer to how I want it to look, though most of the work I'm producing is for pitch purposes only, meaning it's mainly black and white dummy and character stuff.

Feeling a little better now. Going for a walk with Rachel tomorrow, and I'll be participating in the Children's Book Circle pub quiz with [livejournal.com profile] jabberworks on the 27th. If you know a lot about children's books then why not come along? You have to book using the contact form on the site. It's £5 for members and £7 for non members and this includes drinks and snacks.

Also, a question. Does anyone know how I would go about customizing my journal? Mainly the bannery bit at the top. I want to change it to my original art like [livejournal.com profile] piratecore has done.

I got the painting of the Blue crowned motmot in the post today. Thanks very much! It looks just like the real thing which I knew nothing about until I looked it up on Wikipedia. My Dad's a full-time landscape oil painter (bet you didn't know that) and I'll see if he has any card mounts of that size to frame it. He liked the picture too.

Sorry to hear about the housing lark. At least it sounds like leaving the old landlords and the nocturnal dog stealer will be a relief. As for the earlier post on lack of creativity, I recently read one tip for novel writers who have a perfectionism block is to purposefully set yourself the task of doing something badly in many different drafts so that it gradually improves. The palm pod boat looks an intriguing subject matter. I'm wondering how it could be incorporated into the eventual story.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.

Your Dad's paintings are beautiful.

Re: the novel writers thing. The problem with writing text for a picture book is you're writing something that has to essentially fit into 24 pages, and tell a story in small sentences and paragraphs. Novelists have more freedom in this manner.

I shall certainly give the excercise a try though.

That's really nice! The textures, the colour and the composition all work really well together.

And I'm pleased to see that Potoo made friends with the wee beastie instead of eating it! :)

I liked the wee beastie so much I kept him. Of course in real life potoos eat insects so he'd be a goner!

Go here:
http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml?group=customcss

Put the following in:
#header-inner {
position: static; /* fixes positioning issue on IE */
min-height: 100px; /* Change if your image is higher than this to however high your image is */
background-position: center bottom;
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-image: url(http://taktix.org/images/death-header-5.jpg); /* Change the url to the location of your image */
}

That should work and override the existing image, if it doesn't then we can copy this theme and just change the image code in there no problem.
