Please join [livejournal.com profile] belizebirdnhm if you haven't already. I'll be posting the rest there. This is the second specimen I drew. I forgot to take pictures of the first lot. It took me an hour to draw the first toucan on it's side, then 2 hours to make other sketches. This specimen, (1880, British Honduras) took less time.

It took me a while to realize that the pics were of a drawing and a real bird. They both looked like real birds!

I thought this for a while, too, and then realised that some were a bit, well, flat and didn't cast any shadows. ;o)

Thanks. :D The tags are awesome. This particular one said the bird was found in 1880 in British Honduras (what is now Belize.)

1880...Ridgeway ?
does the tag say anything about who shot them?

Blancaneaux the french naturalist collected it, but whether he shot it or someone else did I have no idea. The bigger specimen is from Chiapas, Mexico in 1897.

That's a lovely sketch!

And a lovely artist photo, too. You could use that on the back of your book! Well, when you have one.

How was the curator? Hopefully blown away by HOW UTTERLY FANTASTIC your work is !!!

Shucks, thanks. :)

Oh he's seen lots of artists. He was however, very friendly and helpful. I think part of him being wary of me is people have come in and damaged specimens in the past. X( Don't blame him for being wary. That makes me angry too.

I'd also happily sell you the Frida pic if you want. email me to suggest a price if you want. :)

Excellent work! I have joined the comm, so I look forward to seeing more! :)

So, how did things go with the huffy-puffy curator?

He was lovely actually. I think he's had people come in and treat the specimens disrespectfully so he was wary. But a lovely chap.

People have tried pulling the wings apart on the specimens and stuff and broken them. X(
