Stage 3: The Grand Finale – GirlCode Hackathon 2024

- Location: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Accra, Kigali, Lagos, Nairobi, Kampala, Douala, Lusaka
Eligibility
Participants: Open to teams of up to 4 members.
Age: All participants must be 18 or older.
Gender: All participants must be female.
Qualifications: Participants should have STEM qualifications.
Region: Participation is open to individuals from: South Africa, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigerian, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia
Previous Projects: Projects must be newly created for this hackathon and not previously published or used in other competitions.
Project and Submission Requirements
Stage 1: Presentations
- Title: A catchy, descriptive title for your project.
- Intoduction: Introduce your team members by stating their Name, Age, Email address and Location.
- Description: A brief summary of your project’s purpose and goals.
- Presentation Deck: A 5-10 slide presentation outlining the problem, solution, technology, and potential impact.
- Submission Platform: Upload your presentation on DevPost.
Stage 2: Demos
- Demo Video: A 5 minute video demonstrating your project’s functionality and features.
- Submission Platform: Upload your demo on DevPost.
Stage 3: The Grand Finale – GirlCode Hackathon 2024
- Final Presentation: Refine your project and prepare a final presentation for live demos.
- Live Demo: Present your polished project to judges and attendees at the event.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection
A detailed rubric will be used to evaluate your presentations and demos, ensuring a fair and transparent review process. This rubric will be shared with participants at a later stage. Here’s a sneak peek at the key criteria:
- Innovation and Creativity: How original and creative is the idea?
- Technical Execution: How well is the project implemented? Is the code clean and well-documented?
- Impact and Usefulness: Does the project address a real-world problem effectively?
- Presentation and Demo: How well is the project presented and demonstrated? Is the problem and solution clearly communicated?
- Feasibility and Scalability: Can the project be realistically implemented and scaled?
Judging Process:
- Stage 1: Judges will review presentations based on the rubric and select the most promising projects to advance.
- Stage 2: Judges will evaluate demo videos and code repositories according to the rubric to select finalists.
- Stage 3: Finalists will present their projects live, and judges will select the winners based on the rubric criteria.
