- Topic description:
We’re planning a cohort-based learning program focused on Block Theme Development, and before turning it into a full course, we want to build the learning pathway together with the community.
This cohort is an open, collaborative space for developers, designers, educators, and WordPress contributors who are interested in shaping what an ideal Block Theme Development learning journey should look like — from fundamentals to real-world implementation.
Instead of starting with a fixed syllabus, we’ll work together to:
- Identify essential concepts and skills for block theme development
- Decide the right learning order (beginner → intermediate → advanced)
- Define practical outcomes, exercises, and milestones
- Share experiences, gaps, and challenges faced while learning or teaching block themes
- Align the pathway with real WordPress.org, client, and community needs
What support we’re looking for from contributors
To build an effective and practical Block Theme Development learning pathway, we’re inviting contributors to support us in the following ways:
- Help shape the learning pathway
Share your thoughts on how block theme development should be structured — what comes first, what builds next, and what learners should be able to do at each stage.
- Share real-world experience
If you have previous experience building block themes, contributing to themes, or working with the Site Editor, your insights can help us avoid common learning gaps and confusion.
- Suggest beginner-friendly approaches
Help us think about how to explain concepts clearly for newcomers — especially for learners starting from zero, with little or no prior block theme knowledge.
- Identify essential topics and skills
What must someone learn to confidently build a block theme? From theme.json and templates to patterns, styles, and best practices — your input matters.
- Help define a “zero to hero” journey
Collaborate with us on turning complex ideas into a progressive, easy-to-follow journey that takes learners from fundamentals to real, usable block themes.
