Ref: #575This first very basic implementation is nowhere close to where it needs to be however, the amount of changes is making it harder to work on the next features.
Since the writer is not used by anything, it's safe to merge it as is so I can keep working on the next steps in smaller iterations.
Please ignore for now inconsistency in the code and potential performance bottlenecks, this is all going to be cleaned up in upcoming PR's.
