when i executedubi -dp AppImageCommunity/pkg2appimage --matching-regex "x86_64" --rename-exe "foobar" i expect that new name would be as implied foobar, however it becomes foobar.AppImage.

Is it possible to get rid of AppImage ext?

Hmm, this seems like a bug. I will investigate what's going on here.

Ah, now I remember. For some file types, ubi does always preserve the extension. This is intentional. The .appimage type is one of the types for which this is the behavior. The AppImage docs don't spell this out explicitly, but from what I read it does seem like it's expected that the AppImage files will keep this extension.

Ok, understand. I is possible to maybe include some flag e.g preserve-ext or whatever, which will allow us to override this behavior?

Thinking about this some more, I think the thing to do is to have --rename-exe use exactly what it's given. That's the simplest solution. It's a bit of a breaking change but that's why I haven't released a 1.0 version.

The change to remove extensions with --rename-exe would also be useful for the Pyz format. For example, https://github.com/pypa/pipx is intended to be executed without the extension.

Actually, I realized that this isn't a breaking change. The docs have always said that the name given is used as is, so this is just a bug.
