Thanks for including your Git version, that's very helpful. Looks like the --diff-merges option was added in Git 2.31: https://github.com/git/git/blob/master/Documentation/RelNotes/2.31.0.adoc. Please let me know if updating Git fixes the problem.

This shouldn't be a problem anymore with git who v0.7. I've removed this --diff-merges option altogether.
