IN CHARACTER
Name: Kevin Flynn
Canon: Tron: Legacy
Canon Point: Leaving the End of Line club with Quorra and Sam, just prior to his identity disk getting stolen.
Age: Like. 1200 due to time shenanigans of the Grid. Looks to be in his early 60s, in Real World Time.

History:

Wiki and some necessary plot.

Personality:

Flynn has changed significantly since the last time we saw him in the first film. Betrayal shows us a man altered irrevocably by his experiences, driven to support and nurture his small family both inside and outside of the Grid. Good-humored, passionate, incredibly charismatic, incurably curious and tenaciously ambitious with his goals for the Grid, Flynn still had his moments of irreverence, acute naivety, and the frustrated impatience so readily mirrored by CLU. When his wife died, he coped through working, almost selfishly, swept up and dazzled by his own lofty dreams.

The coup took a great deal from him: his friends, his life's work, the ISOs, Tron and, most importantly, his son. He fought at first, as he tells Sam, but Flynn was not a soldier. Losing programs sent to fight CLU wasn't simply a loss of code; to him, it meant the loss of real lives. Unwilling to sanction the widescale murder of programs in order to maybe win a phyrric victory, Flynn chose exile, escaping with Quorra.

He sought refuge in Zen Buddhism as a means of coping. Through the years of practice, and in teaching Quorra, he's moved beyond his guilt, and his grief. He's moved beyond a lot of things as a Zen Master, he admits, and it shows in his actions through the rest of the film.

Gone is the impulsivity that seemed to rule him, the naivety, the ambitious man too frantically in love with idealized perfection. Flynn is realistic now, thoughtful, aware much more of what impact he's left (and still has) on the Grid, and measured with his actions. Enlightenment has left room for his good humor and his certain brand of equanimity, displaying an immeasurable reverence for the ISOs and his handling of Quorra's damaged code, and no little joy in his conversation with Sam aboard the solar sailer. He's just a good dude.

"All right, Beck, so he's perfect??" Nah, he's no Buddha. Despite his God-like status on the Grid, he's still only human. His patience can most certainly be tested, and his years of exile left him with a certain reluctance to wade once again into the fray. Flynn is pacifist to a fault, and quite unwilling to perform any action that could bring further harm to the Grid. There are certain lines he will not cross.

Setting:

Flynn would absolutely want to know how the heck the Ingress (or Savrii/alien/whatever tech) worked! Despite his self-imposed exile, Flynn hasn't lost his curiosity or his interest in others. He'll do his part to make friends, to turn a hand toward helping where he can, and...probably make a LOT of apologies once he finds out CLU is there ffffff.

Abilities/Skills:

Superb hacker skills, genius programmer, an excellent problem solver when he turns his attention to an issue. Flynn's warmth and charisma have proven contagious in the past, and his tendency to deeply consider his actions through meditation means he's not gonna leap into something half-cocked.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

Quick learner
Adaptable
Experienced
Endlessly patient
See hacker skills above
Generally great with tech in general, from software to hardware
A good mechanic as well, judging by the lightcycles he's built and the Ducati he owned that Sam is set on restoring

Weaknesses:

He's old, folks. He's not gonna be fighting anyone, and actually wouldn't out of sheer principle.
Same goes for his programming skills. He's pretty freakin great, but uh.....the Grid is still built on 80's tech.
CLU. Just. CLU.
Actually let's toss Rinzler in there, too. :C
As a pacifist, it'll take a lot for anyone with war in mind to try to move him on that front. Good luck, buddy.

Items:

Swanky light-up robes, prayer beads, identity disk

SAMPLES
Network Sample:

[ Flynn's been poking around the network with no small amount of curiosity behind the impulse, reading what he can of others here, their experiences and thoughts. ]

The TAB is certainly a neat little device, isn't it? Reminds me of my old BBS- and I guess I'm really showing my age, aren't I?

[ Whatever, he smiles lightly, a flick of unselfconsious amusement. ]

My name is Kevin Flynn. How's it hanging?
