Please make sure to follow ALL rules at all times. Appropriate actions will be taken if rules are broken. Breaking rules can lead to disqualification. 

1. DATES AND TIMINGS

Contest Registration Period: November 17th, 2022 (12:00 am Pacific Time, USA) - January 2nd, 2023 (6:30 pm Pacific Time, USA) (the “Contest Registration Period”)

Contest Submission Period: January 2nd, 2023 (6:30 pm Pacific Time, USA) –  January 8th, 2023 (6:30 pm Pacific Time, USA) (the “Contest Submission Period”)

Judging Period: January 8th, 2023 (6:30 pm Pacific Time, USA) – January 10th, 2023 (10 pm Pacific Time, USA) (the “Judging Period”)

Winners Announced: On or around January 10th, 2023 (10 pm Pacific Time, USA)

 

2. ELIGIBILITY

A. The Contest IS open to: 
  • Individuals who are currently enrolled in a High School and are between the ages of 13 to 18.
  • Individuals who are residents of the United States of America
B. The Contest IS NOT open to:
  • Individuals who are under the ages of 13, and over the ages of 18
  • Individuals who are not currently enrolled in High School
  • Individuals who are not residents of the United States of America

 

3. FORMING TEAMS

  • Teams must consist of a maximum of 4 people, and a minimum of 1 person
  • All members must be added to the submission, and all members should contribute to the development process evenly. 
  • If you need team members, please look on the discord server. 

 

4. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Participant must do the following to participate in the Contest:

  • Register for the Contest on Devpost by clicking the “Register” button. To complete registration, Participants must sign up to create a Devpost account, or log in with an existing Devpost account. There is no charge for creating a Devpost account. This will enable Participants to receive important updates and access the “Submit Project” page. Also please make sure to fill the google form that can be found in the todo section. This form is mandatory, so please make sure that you AND your teammates fill it out.  
  • Create a demo video that clearly demonstrates/addresses the following:
    • The application's functionality
    • The reasoning behind creating the application
    • The struggles faced during the development and creation of the application
    • Future goals/plans for the application
    • The video must be between 2:00 minutes and 5:00 minutes long
  • The participant submitting the project for the group must submit the following:
    • The demo video (read above)
    • A github link that includes all the source code, and commit history
    • Optional: A link to the application itself for judges to test by themselves. Please note that this is optional, and will NOT affect how your application is graded.
A. Language Requirements

All Submissions must be in English, or a translation into English must be provided by the Participant or group.

5. JUDGING

Judges: Eligible Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges selected by the organizers. The Judges will have extensive experience in Computer Science. Below is the judging criteria that will be followed strictly:

  • Category A - The Idea (Worth 5 points): This category will be judged based on how well the Group's idea solves current problems, along with if the idea was creative.
  • Category B - Technical Complexity (Worth 4 points): This category will be judged based on the complexity of the application itself. Specifically, what technologies were used (eg. Databases, Frameworks, etc), and how well they were implemented.
  • Category C - Creativity + Features (Worth 4 points): This category will be judged based on how creative the features of the project were, and how well the features correlated with the main idea of the project.
  • Category D - Github+ Video (Worth 3 points): This category is graded on the github repository and the video length. Github must be used when developing the application, and the judges will check the commit history to make sure that the project was completed within the Hackathon time frame. In addition, Groups will recieve points if their demo video fits the length of 2:00 minutes to 5:00 minutes. 
  • Category E - Submission in Correct Format (Worth 2 points): All groups will recieve 2 points if their submission is in the correct format, and their submission is on time.

Tie Breaker: If two or more Submissions are tied, the panel of Judges will vote on the tied Submissions and award additional points to break the tie.

 

6. GENERAL RULES

1. Respect others. Treat other participants the way you would like to be treated. Do not trash talk other participants. 

2. No use of slurs or disrespectful language: Any use of slurs will result in an immediate disqualification!

3. Do not ask other groups for help: Consulting with other groups regarding projects will count as their first warning towards disqualification.
