OUT OF CHARACTER
PLAYER: Julie
CONTACT: Comment here (comments are screened) or feel free to PM anytime! Discord or Plurk available on request for writing partners.
ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: EST, v sporadic and slow these days
BRACKETS/PROSE: Slight preference for present-tense prose, but I’ll match either.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: None for me. From Camilla, her canon is big on body horror, necromancy, and imperialist genocide to fuel said necromancy. Just lmk if there’s anything I need to steer clear of.

BACKTAGGING: yes please, I’m slow af
THREADHOPPING: only in texts, or if OOCly agreed-upon
FOURTHWALLING: no ty
CROSS-CANON: here for it! especially other necromancers/magic-users, sword fighters, and rebels in space. The Locked Tomb as a canon straddles the line between science fiction and fantasy, so anything else that mingles those genres might be rad.
CANON WRITING INTERESTS: canon spoilers below, but I’m especially here for:
  • IN GENERAL: all canonmates welcome pls!! but also bodyguard feelings, the cavalier-necromancer relationship and tight-knit dynamic between her and her other half, Palamedes. Sixth House pre-canon backstory. AUs and roads not taken.
  • GIDEON THE NINTH: exploring the Lyctoral trials with Palamedes, interacting with other cavaliers & necromancers that we didn’t get to see much of (pls I want to see her and Naberius training together). teamups with the Ninth. the ending of the book seguing into the BOE.
  • AS YET UNSENT / HARROW THE NINTH: exploring her trauma bond and captivity with Coronabeth & Judith. shared grief and piecing herself back together in the wake of GtN.
  • NONA THE NINTH: found family feelings with Pyrrha & Nona, and Camilla and Palamedes operating as dad and mom respectively. bodyswap fuckery. post-canon AU fix-its; I’m not much here for Paul.
IN CHARACTER
NAME: Camilla Hect. Camilla the Sixth, Warden’s Hand of the Library, and Cavalier Primary to the Heir of the House of the Sixth.
AGE: 20
CANON: Tamsyn Muir’s The Locked Tomb series
CANON POINT: Can be truly anywhere and anytime for PSLS & memes, whether backstory → GtN → As Yet Unsent → HtN → NtN → post-canon.

INFORMATION: The cavalier — right-hand and bodyguard — to the heir of the Sixth House, Palamedes Sextus. She applied to the position of cavalier primary at the age 12, and was accepted. Fights with two double-bladed swords. She’s precocious and driven; quiet, intelligent, and extremely dry. Watchful and unflappable, rarely registering surprise or indecision. Extremely close with her necromancer, Palamedes, her best friend and somewhat distant second cousin. Grew up in a spacefaring necromantic empire; the Sixth House is actually the planet Mercury, and the repository of the empire’s knowledge and studies.
PERMISSIONS
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: For the people she’s close to, yes; although it’s usually in the form of acts of service rather than casual unthinking affection, unless your name starts with “Pal” and ends in “-amedes”.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Yes. Will brusquely throw down if she needs to.
ROMANCE:
✓✓✓ Palamedes
Camilla/Dulcinea/Palamedes as an OT3; Naberius Tern (I know, I’m garbage, but this stupid idea won’t leave me alone); cross-canon with chemistry (either f/f or m/f); idk, surprise me.
? possibly Gideon, possibly Corona, possibly Judith/Coronabeth/Camilla as an OT3. pretty much lots that I’m not immediately drawn to, but could be persuaded with the right writing partner or IC development.
Harrow, Ianthe, Pyrrha, any of the Lyctors

NOTE: I ship Campal Very Very Much, but I was on the fence for the longest time because I cherish having such a strong depiction of ride-or-die best friendship too, so I am absolutely 100% fine leaning into the platonic bffs angle if a Palamedes writer isn’t into the romantic ship.
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: Has extremely strong willpower but she’s not magically-trained, so she might be able to put up a small fight but not fend off any psychic intrusion. She seems impassive on the outside, but prying past her mental defenses would reveal a big, loyal heart.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: None.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: A fit swordswoman in her prime.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL: “Standing next to him holding a big wedge of broken sculpture and the flashlight was a tall, equally grey wrapped figure with a scabbard outlined at her hip. She had hair of an indeterminate darkness, cut blunt at her chin. She was restless as a bird, stepping from one foot to the other, quirking her elbows, rocking from the balls of her feet to the heel.”

“Camilla’s eyes were much darker than her necromancer’s: his were like clear stone or water, and hers were the unreflective, fathomless colour of overturned Ninth House sod, neither grey nor brown.”

“You looked up into her face. Camilla Hect was a closed object, with locks and snaps; she had an expression like the rock before the Tomb, inexorable, giving nothing away. But her eyes—her eyes were dark as the grit mixed with the soil, neither grey nor brown but both. They were the eyes of a winter season without any promise of spring. In comparing the eyes to the face, you saw into a zipped-up agony.”

Author’s description: ‘Camilla has very dark cold-brown hair – chin-length, straight and with a fringe – dark eyes. She’s compact and has lots of lean muscle.’

WEAPONRY: Alternates between official cavalier weaponry (one rapier in a shabby scabbard, with an off-hand dagger, rather sad), and her preferred arsenal (two blades, double-edged, rather lethal). Accumulates pairs of swords like she never wants to run out. Sometimes carries a nightstick. Likes being armed at all times.

“The rapier looked, like Gideon’s, maybe a million years old. It was the first time she had seen it in a good light, and here it looked as though it had never been designed to take an edge blow; the blade was light and delicate as a cobweb. The offhand looked like Camilla’s whole House had gone searching down the back of the sofa for weapons. They had come up with what looked more like a long hunting or hacking knife than a duelling dagger: thick, meaty, cross-guarded, with a single sharpened edge. The whole effect was sadly amateurish.”

“Gideon had never had the opportunity to study Camilla’s two short swords before: they were more like very long daggers, slightly curved at each end, wholly utilitarian. They glittered clean and hot beneath the soggy light of the kitchen[.]“

AURAL: A surprisingly low voice, and a “gruff, barking little laugh”.
OLFACTORY: Crisp, unscented soap. Clean sweat. Metal.
DEMEANOUR: Fidgety and physically restless, unless she’s entering a fight, at which point she’s still and utterly focused and lethal. A businesslike young woman of very few words and extreme efficiency. Clever and intellectual — you can hardly come out of the Sixth and not be a nerd — and can keep up with her necromancer when he starts geeking out about magic. Cam made it a point of learning his art and studying alongside him when he was prepping for his exams, largely because she makes for such a good sounding board and brainstorming partner. Also a trained medic.
FROM THE COHORT INTELLIGENCE FILES
OF JUDITH DEUTEROS
Camilla Hect, born in the Library. Almost nothing is known of Camilla Hect except that she passed the examinations to become Palamedes Sextus’ cavalier when she was twelve. She has not entered in any duelling tournaments or done informal bouts. No Cohort placement ever sought.

NOTES: She is registered as his second cousin; the genetic data is still readily available and reliable as the Sixth’s leading concern. Offhand style is most likely the dagger, as the Sixth House do not have the confidence to move away from the classics. A pair who will most likely be flexible minds, but will not even bother to compete on the cavalier stage.
