I decided it was time to make my First. Post. *grins* I've been sitting in the #dw channel most nights and it just amazes me at how helpful everyone is and how knowledgeable so many are about the code. I get so excited when I see bugs being marked as RESOLVED FIXED. I also get the strong urge to plunge back into perl and linux again when discussions about each come up. I miss those days but my brain just won't let me concentrate/focus long enough to delve in and try to help and it's so frustrating. At least I can help out money wise when April 30th arrives.
None of my friends on LJ are interested in moving which is fine. I didn't start using LJ because of my friends. It was a place that made it very easy for me to post a journal about things happening in my life. It was home. When
brad sold to 6A, my confidence in the service wasn't as strong but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt considering that they had created and ran a blogging site. As time and mistakes came and went, my belief in the site began to lessen. When LJ was sold to SUP, I started looking elsewhere. I had created a journal on InsaneJournal.com a few years beforehand but never used it. I dusted it off and started adding communiities and such but I just didn't like the feel of the site. I had also created a journal on DeadJournal.com at some point but again, I didn't like the feel of the site.
I don't remember what it was that had happened on LJ but someone commented on a post about Dreamwidth with a link to information about who was starting it and their vision for it. I was immediately ready to move right then and there but of course, it wasn't up and running yet. That's how confident I was that DW would be what LJ used to be for me. It would be home. Of course, things seemed to improve at LJ and apparently the push to build DW tapered off. Thankfully that has now changed and here I am.
I plan to import both of my LJ journals at some point.I'm waiting for access filters to work before I do so and hopefully by then, most of the few importer bugs will be fixed. I probably won't be posting much either until the access filters are working unless it's just general stuff. Oops, access filters are working properly. I was having an idiot moment. *headdesk*
I'm so excited!! (Yes, I know that I've said that already but I can't help it.)
