Congreso Ibérico de Aguas Subterráneas
Iberic meeting of the Spanish and Portuguese IAH National Chapters. The Spanish Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH-GE) is pleased to invite you to a new edition of the Iberian Congress on Groundwater (CIAS2026), which will be held in the city of Barcelona on 1, 2, 3 and 4 July 2026.
This edition is organised thanks to the joint efforts of the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC). The Congress will take place at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Barcelona.
CIAS2026 continues a long-standing series of congresses aimed at highlighting the crucial role of hydrogeology within the overall hydrological cycle. Its main objective is to foster interaction among scientists, technicians, water managers, students and water professionals in general, encouraging the exchange of knowledge, experiences and shared challenges related to the study and sustainable management of groundwater.
The IAH-GE, as the Spanish representative of the International Association of Hydrogeologists promotes activities that strengthen knowledge transfer and technical and scientific debate. To this end, it organises meetings, publishes monographs and the journal Hydrogeology Journal, and encourages collective reflection through workshops, round tables and congresses such as CIAS2026. In this edition, the Portuguese Chapter of the IAH will also actively collaborate in the organisation of the Congress, reinforcing its Iberian and cross-border character.
Located on the Mediterranean coast and taking place in the summer season, CIAS2026 will also provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the natural and cultural surroundings of Barcelona. We aim for this Congress to be not only a forum for knowledge, but also a space for inspiration and synergy.

14-18 Sep 2026 – Budapest Congress Center, Budapest, Hungary
IAH 2026 – The 53rd World Groundwater Congress
Groundwater – A Key Multi-Resource. We are delighted to invite you to the 53rd World Groundwater Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, taking place from 14 to 18 September 2026. This prestigious event returns to Hungary after half a century, and we are proud to welcome you again to the beautiful city of Budapest. This city is connected to water in many ways. The Danube River flows majestically through the heart of Budapest, providing drinking water for 1.8 million people through the efficient riverbank filtration technology. Budapest is also known as the city of spas, because there is no other place in the world with so many natural hot springs and spas offering relaxing and therapeutic experiences. The naturally discharging thermal waters have shaped the city's karst landscape, creating unique hypogenic caves and mineral formations. Due to the favorable natural conditions, geothermal energy exploration gains importance in the area in response to the growing global demand for sustainable energy solutions. The topics of the conference highlight the diverse and critical roles that groundwater plays in environmental sustainability, resource management, and societal well-being. Thus, we aim to provide a platform for leading experts, researchers, and professionals from around the globe to engage in discussions and explore the multifaceted role of groundwater in our world.
Join us in Budapest for an unforgettable experience! We will foster a collaborative environment in which we can all learn and drive forward the field of groundwater resources.Organised by Hungarian National Chapter of IAH.
