Personality:
At first blush, Jack Frost comes off as a mischievous, trouble-making teenager who also just happens to have been made immortal by the Man in the Moon. For hundreds of years, the reason for his transformation remains a mystery to Jack himself, and the fact that no humans ever see him turns Jack cynical and pessimistic. However, this coarse exterior is not Jack’s true center. His true center, he discovers, is the magic of fun, and he finds the most meaning in his life once he becomes a Guardian.
Jack’s affinity for fun is partly what gives him his mischievous nature. He loves to play practical jokes and make people laugh, and he loves to laugh himself. Jack isn’t exactly carefree, however; his centuries of loneliness and confusion have made him cynical and antisocial. (He’s a loner, Pee Wee, a rebel.) He can be sarcastic and enjoys having a laugh at someone else’s expense - provided, at least by his judgment, that they deserve it (read: Bunnymund). And while he seems pretty proud of his ice abilities, Jack doesn’t initially see himself as Guardian material at all. It’s only when he regains his memories of his human life and children start believing in him that Jack really sees himself capable of becoming something greater than an impish ice spirit.
For his antisocial and mischievous behavior, Jack is never cruel. He is especially kind to children, even before they are able to see him, stemming from his fondness for his sister. In fact, Jack’s sacrificial act in saving his sister is the defining moment in which the Man in the Moon chooses him to become a Guardian. Even more striking is that Jack makes a game out of it, encouraging his sister to have fun even as they stand perilously on thin, cracking ice. It is his commitment to protecting children and replacing fear with fun that makes Jack such a powerful Guardian. Once the children begin to believe in Jack, his true nature begins to manifest itself in earnest as he leads them in battle against Pitch by using the purest element of childhood: fun.
As he grows into his role as a Guardian, Jack begins to act more responsible and hopeful. He knows who he needs to be and what he needs to do, and while he doesn’t shake off his mischievous nature - it’s too tightly bound to his way of being - he realizes the value of working with others and fighting for the people who need him. That’s not to say Jack can’t be discouraged. Jack can be easily persuaded by fear, and is even somewhat gullible. Even so, Jack is quite clever and a quick thinker, and is the one who is ultimately able to lead the charge against Pitch.
Abilities/Powers:
Jack Frost is a Guardian, a (relatively) immortal being whose main purpose is to protect children and promote childhood. As his name implies, Jack Frost is the Guardian associated with winter, and as such, he has potent magical ice powers. Jack is able to create and manipulate ice around him, create snow, frost window panes, turn water into ice, and even fly by manipulating the wind. Jack controls most of his magical abilities through his crook-shaped staff, but he is able to use magic without it as well. Aside from his magical abilities, Jack is nimble and light on his feet, while his Guardian status makes it so he doesn’t need to eat or sleep.
Items/Weapons:
His staff. THAT IS ALL.
Sample Entry:
[ Oookay, so after much insistence from the locals, Jack finally decides to give his cell phone a go. Personally, he thinks carrying it around is clunky and annoying, but it seemed important to everyone else around. Honestly, it still freaks him out that everyone here can see and hear him, but one problem at a time.
Current problem: correctly using the video function. The feed is currently displaying a nice close-up of a thumb. ]
Great. One day in town and it’s already broken. Not exactly a new record for me, but…
[ OH HEY there’s a flashing light under his thumb. Maaaaybe…? ]
...Look. I don’t even know if this thing is working right. What, am I just supposed to wait until someone talks back?
[ This is so not his thing. Not the technology or public introductions or, you know, talking to people. He groans. ]
Never mind. Just forget it. You’ll know my name soon enough.
[ That, at least, he would make sure of. ]
Sample Entry Two:
Jack was pretty sure he could blame the Man in the Moon for this one, too. All things considered, his “reassignment” wasn’t entirely shocking. Haven, if any place did, definitely needed a Guardian. Even if there weren’t many children around, there was plenty of fear, and he was willing to bet he could still do something about that.
It wouldn’t be easy, however, not on his own. He didn’t even know where to start. He still spent most of his nights perched on the highest stable structures he could find, staring up at the moon, waiting for answers that never come. It wasn’t going to be like the last time, was it? Waiting for three hundred years before destiny gave him the time of day?
No. He wouldn’t wait for an answer. He would do something, anything he could to bring some joy into the lives of the people trapped here with him. That, after all, was what being a Guardian was all about.
It was time to start a snowball fight.
