Dear Yuletide author 2015 (!)
Dear Yuletide author,
I am delighted that you are participating in Yuletide and also delighted that you are writing a story for me or even just considering writing a story for me. Thank you! Writing and scheming are my favorite parts of Yuletide, so my hope is that you too will enjoy writing whatever it is you write. I have written a bit about each of my requested fandoms below, but if you already have an idea you want to run with, please go for it!
Here are some things about my tastes as a reader:
Specific fandoms discussed below!
Fandom: Goofus and Gallant
Characters: Goofus, Gallant
I love the idea of this fandom for its comic potential but also for its potential to be subversive about social rules. There are many possibilities here, from comic story about these two archetypes running amok to deep explorations of what it means to behave in socially acceptable or unacceptable ways.
Are these two consistent characters where one is always generous and well-mannered and the other selfish and rude (and if so, what are the rest of their lives like!!??)? Or are Goofus-ness and Gallant-ness more in the eye of the beholder? What is a day at school like for these two? Do they know each other? How did each one come by his or her or their** approach to life?
**If you feel moved to racebend and/or genderbend these characters, I wholeheartedly support you.
I would definitely enjoy reading Goofus and Gallant slash, anything from a serious exploration of how these two very different characters come to care about each other to PWP where Gallant is all, no, Goofus, you have to say please, or Goofus is all, who cares if we get lube all over Grandma's couch. But I'd just as much enjoy a character study, or some sort of sci fi dystopia, or anything else you can dream up.
Also: I would totally be down to read about Goofus and Gallant doing Yuletide. But please know that last year, I wrote a post about respectfully declining kinky content in your Yuletide letter that generated some controversy and I'm still feeling kind of raw about that, so if you're going to engage with that content here, please do so kindly!
Fandom: Jeeves - P. G. Wodehouse
Characters: Dahlia Travers
Aunt Dahlia! I love her loud, kind-hearted, and unafraid-to-call-it-as-she-sees-it personality. Her insulting telegrams! Her insults in general! I'd love to read more funny stuff about her. Maybe an adventure from her fox-hunting days (preferably one that didn't involve actual fox-hunting, as I don't want to read about animals being hurt)? Or one of Bertie's stories retold from her perspective? Or something about her relationship with Aunt Agatha?
If you wanted to take this in an explicit sex/kink direction, I'd love to see Aunt Dahlia paired with one of Bertie's contemporaries (Madeline Bassett? Gussie Fink-Nottle?), with some sort of eroticized power differential. Almost any kink would be fine here--I'm most interested in characterization and humor--but I'd prefer not to read detailed descriptions of oral sex for this particular scenario.
(Also, a story told entirely or primarily in telegrams would be pretty great.)
Fandom: The Unbelievable Truth (BBC Radio) RPF
Characters: Victoria Coren Mitchell, David Mitchell
You can go one of two major ways with this prompt: write a story that substantially engages with The Unbelievable Truth, or just understand The Unbelievable Truth as a convenient Yuletide fandom container for these two and write a completely unrelated story about them. Either way is fine by me!
What I enjoy individually about these two is their quick, dry wit. What I enjoy about the two of them together is how genuinely they seem to appreciate and care about each other on all levels.
I am open to a lot of things for this prompt but there are a couple of things I definitely don't want: I am not interested in cozy domestic scenes or anything about their being parents. I am happy to read about their growing or existing romance but please don't include either of them saying "I love you" or similar verbal declarations.
Some things that would be fun here:
If you want to engage with The Unbelievable Truth, yay! I like the way the show manages to be funny almost in spite of its lecture format--the more things go off-script, the more they genuinely make me laugh. I've also been enjoying the way Vicky and David have been playing up their relationship in the most recent series (though there have been moments that made me a bit uncomfortable too). I would love to read something that takes advantage of the format. A story told in Unbelievable Truth-style lectures? An invented episode on a particular theme? If your story includes the radio show, please feel free to put anyone you like on the panel.
Fandom: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Characters: Dorothy "Dot" Williams
I have loved Dot since the beginning of the series. She's brave and tough and stubborn with such a strong sense of self. I love that she is able to maintain her values in the face of pressure from both Hugh and Miss Fisher, but at the same time, she's able to grow so much too.
I'd be glad to read any story about Dot you'd like to tell, but here are some prompts in case they are helpful:

Here are some things about my tastes as a reader:
- I love stories that match or play off of the tone, structure, and--if applicable--humor of the original.
- I like gen fic and explicit fic and everything in between.
- I appreciate stories that are careful about areas of marginalization: race, gender, disability, body size, etc.
- I also appreciate stories that are careful about consent, where sex/kink is concerned.
- I love representations of nonmonogamy and kinkiness. When it comes to sex and/or kink (which are TOTALLY OPTIONAL), characterization is the most important thing to me. If you can convince me that these characters what to do this thing, I will want it with them, whether or not I personally want to do whatever the thing is.
- I enjoy characters expressing tenderness toward each other, but I would ask you not to write them using the phrase "I love you" to do so.
- I don't need stories to have a happy ending, and I don't need characters in relationships to stay in those relationships. What I want most is the ending that feels like the best fit for the story.

- AU where they solve mysteries and are witty about it

- A story about Dot and her friendship with other members of the domestic staff--Cec and Bert, or Mr. Butler. Or all of them.
- Dot solves a mystery on her own
- Something about Dot and Hugh's (ahem) marital affairs - I would love to see Dot's curiosity and standing up for herself extend to sex and/or kink in some way
- Something about Dot reconciling being a "modern woman" with her faith - I don't know much in depth about Catholicism and particularly not in 1920s Australia but if you do and want to write about this, I'd definitely enjoy reading it!
