Snowflake Challenge Day 8: Self-recs: D/s edition

I'm doing Snowflake Challenge at my own pace. Here's Day 8: In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.

I thought I'd share three D/s-centric fics that are accessible without much canon knowledge.

Honoria and the Cipher of Jeeves (5523 words) by implicated2
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Jeeves - P. G. Wodehouse, Jeeves & Wooster
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Honoria Glossop/Daphne Braythwayt, Reginald Jeeves/Bertram Wooster
Characters: Honoria Glossop, Daphne Braythwayt, Bertram Wooster, Reginald Jeeves
Additional Tags: Femslash, D/s, Meta, Indeterminacy, Humor, negotiation, Consent
Summary: What happens when kinky ladies project their desires onto a certain gentleman and valet?

Honoria Glossop and her friend Daphne Braythwayt suspect there's more between Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves than meets the eye. But between Bertie's rhapsodic ramblings and Jeeves' practiced mask, it's difficult to get to the heart of the matter. Then again, when there are amorous adventures to be had among friends, does the heart of the matter really, well, matter?

This is: a tongue-in-cheek story about language, kink negotiation, and why canon doesn't really matter. It is also the first explicit fic I ever wrote.

All the canon you need to know is: Jeeves & Wooster exist in the fictional world, and sometimes people in our world ship them.

Three Predicaments (3785 words) by implicated2
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Curse Workers Series - Holly Black
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Underage
Relationships: Cassel Sharpe/Lila Zacharov
Characters: Cassel Sharpe, Lila Zacharov
Additional Tags: BDSM, D/s, Orgasm Delay/Denial, Piercings, Predicament Scenes, Kink, Dream Work, Podfic Available
Summary:Lila made the amulet against dream work for me a few weeks back, but not for my protection. She made it so that when I take it off, we both know she can work me.

This is: an extended, three-part BDSM predicament scene played out in a shared not-quite-dream. (I tagged it underage, but iirc the two protagonists are very close to eighteen if not actually over.)
All the canon you need to know is: Magic is called "work" (as in "dream work") and mostly performed by crime families. Bare hands can perform magic and are taboo. When they were younger, Lila pierced Cassel's ear with a safety pin, an ice cube, and some alcohol.

Forcefield and Buoy (5659 words) by implicated2
Chapters: 1/1(
Fandom: British Comedy RPF
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Victoria Coren/David Mitchell
Characters: Victoria Coren Mitchell, David Mitchell
Additional Tags: D/s, Poker, negotiation, Long-Term Relationship(s), Service Kink, EPT San Remo
Summary: Vicky and David do D/s. And poker tournaments.

This is: A story about How D/s Feels in the context of an ongoing relationship.
All the canon you need to know is: In 2014, writer and TV presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell became the first person ever to win two European Poker Tour championships. Her husband is comedian David Mitchell.

I wonder if I'm an outlier here - the prompt at the challenge talks about how everyone dreads this one, but I am super proud of (many of) the things I've written and want to share them with you! (That said, I definitely had to remove one qualifying "this fic isn't quite as good as I wanted it to be" statement from this post...)

I'm curious about other folks' feelings about self-recs. How do you feel about reccing your own work? If you dread it, why?

I do find it stressful. I think because there's so much stigma about bragging, especially for women. Humility is what we should all aspire to, right? At some level I know that being proud of one's work is not a repudiation of humility, but it's hard to navigate the line between them.

I actually really like telling people about work I've done that I'm proud of, and there's a fair amount of fic that I've written that I like. It feels weird to share it without prompting, though -- like, I might enjoy sharing this, but that doesn't mean that there's anyone looking to hear that?
venusinthenight: quote from blackadder goes fourth: "made a note in my diary on the way here. simply says, 'bugger.'" (blackadder iv - bugger)

I struggled a little this round, not because of lack of pride in my work but because I've barely contributed anything to fandom in the last while.

On the other hand, in previous rounds I've struggled a bit. It's like, there's a very fine line between self-confidence and arrogance, and you're anxious about toeing that line or crossing over it.

I honestly never make self-recs at all! I love talking about things I've made, whether it's fiction or food or knitting, but it's much easier to do that without framing it as "here's why you should read it" (or, I suppose, eat it or whatever). It's a lot easier to just say "Creating this thing was like this, what an interesting story about my experiences." Though that does mean I find it challenging to write good fic summaries.

I definitely, definitely know that anxiety. It's not so much wanting to be popular (I would need to post more than one story in any given fandom if I were aiming for that), more that I keep a lot of thoughts to myself while writing, and once the fic is public I want to talk about those thoughts and find out whether they show in the work. Recently I've spent a lot of time working on a long fic that I'm not sure is going to get any readership at all, mostly because it's minor-character gen, and I'm trying to treat the beta process as my chance to have those conversations. I mean I also try to be zen about the work being its own reward and whatever, but I'm no more than moderately good at achieving that.
