Thank you so much for writing me a story. It's been a rough year for a lot of us, and I'm hoping Yuletide can offer a little joy and levity in the midst of that.

 

My biggest hope is that you whatever you write for me, you enjoy writing it.

 

As much as is possible, I want you to be able to have fun and be as creative as you like. My requests essentially take the form of “here are some prompts to give you ideas, but also if you have your own idea already, go for it.”

 

Things I especially like
Stories that play off the tone, structure, and—if applicable—humor of the original. Breaking the fourth wall or otherwise meta winks at the source material or the fic itself. Fic that feels like a missing episode. Thoughtful engagement with shortcomings in the source material. Nonstandard formats like transcripts or epistolary stories. 

 

I also love kink, particularly D/s, and I love when it is character-driven. If you can make me understand why these characters want to do this particular thing with each other, I will want it with them, whether or not it is something I personally want to do.

 

 

No US electoral politics or pandemic content, please. 

 

For explicit fic, I’m not interested in sex without a kink dynamic. Also if you decide to write explicit fic, please make sure there is clear consent: I don't need characters to have a formal negotiation about everything they do, but it should be clear that everyone has agreed to whatever's going on. 

 

Oh, and please no grossout food/speed eating/characters eating food they find disgusting.

I love Mae, in all her imperfectness. I love that she does her best, and that sometimes her best falls really short. I love the subtle humor (“Honey I’m horm!”) and all of the business names (Ham Panther! Donut Wolf!) 

 

I'd love a glimpse into what happens to Mae after the game ends.

This show has been a tremendous source of joy and laughter for me recently. I love how much fun everyone seems to be having, and I get deep deep D/s vibes from Greg/Alex and really Greg/everyone. I still laugh out loud at “Tree Wizard,” and that moment where Greg made Alex take off his sock and shoe as punishment was one of my favorites.

 

I'd love any story that lets me spend more time in this comedy universe AND/OR explores the D/s vibes as subtly or as explicitly as you want.

This is a prompt I first made a couple years ago. The show’s tone has shifted since then, because the dark corners of the internet have gotten way darker. I think that’s the right move for the political moment, but for Yuletide, I’d rather read something more lighthearted.

 

I really enjoy the delight Alex and PJ take in the weird world of the internet, and the way they are constantly giving each other shit, but in an affectionate kind of way. 

 

A missing episode or segment would be great. Or a scene where PJ and Alex give each other a hard time about basically anything. This might be a fun one for crossovers, like a Yes Yes No or a Super Tech Support set in a fictional universe. If you’d like to include others from the Gimlet office, maybe an office gift exchange? Or office fic exchange?

 

If you want to get meta, Yuletide, or something about Yuletide, gets the Reply All treatment?

Edited to add: when I wrote this prompt, I had not yet heard any of the episodes with Emmanuel Dzotsi as co-host. But I have now and he is GREAT. I would be very happy to see him included (or even centered!) in any story you come up with.

I only started watching The Good Place last year, and I thought I’d missed its time as a Yuletide fandom. I was super excited to see I hadn’t!

 

There is so much I love about this show. I love the quirky and endearing cast of characters and the found family the core group has together. I love the weird not-quite-humanness of characters like Janet and Michael and the Judge. I love all the jokes about who/what is good and what is bad, and all the terrible pun business names. (I appreciate the more serious dives into philosophy, but those are less my bag in particular than the character/relationship-building and the humor). I would love just about anything set in this universe.

 

I’m not particularly looking for explicit fic here, but I’m open to it if it’s primarily character-and-or-humor-driven. Chidi has a kink he feels anxious about and Eleanor doms him through it? Sure! Group torture scene at a Bad Place office Christmas party? Sounds amazing (and please tell me about all the terrible food and party games too).
