It was great seeing this community appear, as JavaDev is an interest of mine. I have very limited (school only) experience with VB 4.0 (yikes...), and have been out of the loop for ages. So, I am wanting to learn Java (if only so I can feel better about myself).

I look forward to seeing what people have to share. Although I suspect a lot of it will be over my head, Whatever the case, I can't imagine a better place to pick up on how-it's-done.

Anyone else who is new to Java? Always good to make friends in the same boat....

PS: I got two Java books to learn from. They are, Java (How To Program) by Deitel & Deitel, and Thinking In Java (2nd Ed.) by Bruce Eckel. I also downloaded Sun's free Java development platform for my PC (running Win2k), and have the dev tools that came with Mac OS X.

I just started my CS degree this past year, so I had to take Intro to CS I and II, which means Intro to Java, really.

I don't know a lot about it, but I find programming fun. And easy, for the most part.

Hey, I'm glad to see someone create a java community. I'll be glad to jump in from time to time with help (and questions also).

I'm a Java Instructor for Learning Tree, so
hopefully i'll be able to help a little. ;)

Also, i saw that someone wrote about java books.
There are two books that I have used that I think are just great. Both in the core java series from sun press. Can't remember the exact names right now, but something like Java: Fundamentals and Java: Advanced. The authors are Cay & Horstmann.

I looked it up. :p
Core Java 2: Volume 1 Fundamentals
Core Java 2: Volume 2 Advanced Features

I've gotta run, but look forward to hear from you guys.

Oh, and btw, I'm the guy who wrote jLiveJournal
(the java based livejournal client) :)

01:53 pm - Imagebanana - Hello!

This is a community for anyone writing Java code.

Want to talk about Java development? This is the place. From newbie problems to the most obsure discussion topic, maybe we can shed some light.

If you feel like joining the community, you might like to add it to your friends list too, so you see what's going on.
