Community Description:A space for everyone involved in the news process to discuss journalism-related topics.
Do certain news channels make your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you often wonder how we will survive as a species after certain interviews with sources? Do you often fantasize about strangling that one reporter who hangs over your shoulder as you're trying to lay out their page? Do you forget about all your stress and bask in the glory of your byline?

If so, welcome! This is by no means a comprehensive list of what it means to be a journalist or one of the many other suckers dedicated professionals in this field.

The goal of this community is to, primarily, provide a space for the journalists here at DreamWidth for whatever they may need. However, the news doesn't get out there through the work of just a bunch of reporters (although, these days, it sure as sh-t feels like it), and would like to encourage those from other areas of the field to feel welcomed here too with their own insights and perspectives.

Since this is a new community (as of 09 September 2010) and hardly a day old, I think this is a good time to lay down a few guidelines:

1.) Tag your entries. Please. This will make it easier as the community (hopefully!) grows.

2.) Don't be evil. I'd like to see the tone of this community to be casual and heartily encourage snark, but not meanness. Giving constructive advice, honest opinions or generally not blowing rainbows up your ass does not count as being evil.

3.) Participate! I don't foresee this actually being enforced, but there isn't much use for a community without input, discussions, etc. from its users. Duh.

4.) Cut long entries. If you want to post something that could be a novella, fine. But, please, put it behind a cut. Long-ass entries really bug some people.

5.) Put all graphics behind a cut. See also: "don't be evil". Pro-tip: If you're going to be surfing DreamWidth at work, you're really better off having all images replaced with placeholders (Organize -> Manage Account -> Display -> Image Placeholders) and then checking out what you missed in the privacy of your own home.
