My friend, Martha, has always been a staunch supporter of my dolls and creatures. She has a bunch and has given away 5 times a bunch or more. When she saw this year's bunnies, she said they needed cotton tails and bows. I said fine, if she wanted to add them, that would be great. I made 40 and she picked them up yesterday. Turns out adding the butts and bows was far easier than she expected. She texted me the results. She has about 25 butts left so I'll make more this week and then put them out til they are gone.

The butts:

The bows:

The pool blinds are well and truly fixed. They go up and down 'like butta', it's such a relief.

I got brave this morning and tried that extra creamy oat milk with cherrios. FAIL. It does not taste like milk and it does not look like milk. Guess it's an oatmeal only situation which is fine. Better than nothing.

I have now fallen into another very odd for me book that is really turning into a great read. In this case, it may be the reader who 'sells' it but the story is compelling. Dark Ride by Lou Berney. Read by Johnathan McClain. His spot on portrayal of all of the characters is amazing. I don't understand how one person can read in such a way that you actually believe he's a 20 something male stoner, a 40 something black female temptress and a 20 something goth girl plus dozens of other bit players. He is now my new favorite reader ever but also, this book is fun.

About a decade ago the Mariners helped create and then took over Root Sports NW which was a regional sports network. It was available on cable, and then later, on various streaming services. It pretty much sucked but was the only game in town. They killed it dead at the end of last season. The Mariners this year have a full season deal with MLB.TV which I don't love BUT after one game, I can absolutely say is about 20 times better than Root ever tried to be. Whew. Even for a spring training game, it all worked. Closed captions - easy to snap on and off - nothing out of sync - no lags. No mess. Just baseball. Of course the announcers still suck, but, hey...

There's another game on today (they only televise a little less than half the spring training games, which is fine... viewers need to ease into the season like players.

Yesterday, I cleaned out some cupboards in the kitchen. I moved the dishes I use rarely or never into storage so now I can get to the shit I want more easily and emptying the dishwasher is way easier. So I think I'll go do that before I get dressed for elbow coffee.

My appointment with my foot guy was at 8. I checked in and then sat down and opened up my game on my phone and before I could put finger to the screen, I heard "Susan?". I was in - shot, chit chat, - out and at Safeway by 8. He said 'make an appointment for 3 and if fine, cancel!' So I did. Very efficient. It takes 2-7 days for the steroids to start work BUT the psychosomatic results are immediate.

I walked all over Safeway with only a hint of pain. Except I couldn't find anything to eat. I walked up and down every aisle looking for inspiration. None. I did manage to spend $90 because I got coffee and other high end stuff. The oatmilk I like for my oatmeal comes in a gynormous container so I went looking for something in a smaller one - maybe something shelf stable? And, whaddya know? There's my stuff! Smaller container and shelf stable. Nice.

We get new menus today for next week. This past week has been a loser. At the first of the year, I changed my meal plan to $300 from $600. So the pressure is off to spend money on food I don't want. I think $300 is a workable amount as long as the menus aren't losers!

I have a load of laundry laundrying and I did order an Italian wrap from the dining room for lunch to be picked up at 11:30 to enable me to get back here for the first baseball game.

When we got to the pool this morning, we discovered a major miracle. The shades were down!!!! The shades that haven't been down in months, were down!! And now they can go up and down on command. The issue, apparently, was a dead battery. Which, of course, had anyone known, could have easily been fixed months ago. BUT, no matter. It's all fixed now and whew.

Today I break into my first refill of Wegovy. Since I plan on doing this for the rest of my life, these milestones have less significance but I still kind of think about them.

There is nothing else on the calendar today. I picked up the Timer Ridge Timeses on the way back from volleyball and delivered them. I took Martha's bowl back to her with a thank you note. She left us a bowl of tangerines on the credenza in the elbow with a Happy Chinese New Year note and a little placard explaining oranges and new years. It was cute of her and the bowl was very Chinese. (She and Richard both are Chinese. Richard used to be the representative for the whole of the 3rd floor. They live in the other wing. They still come to Saturday Elbow Coffee and still kind of feel like they 'belong' to us.)

I do have an Amazon return but I think I'll just drop it off tomorrow after the foot doctor.

I have discovered one issue with my Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus. It is VERY picky about how it charges. If it does not get a cable and charger it likes, it shows that it's charging but actually, it is just tickling. Yesterday, I took it off the charger to use for taking notes at the committee meeting and didn't notice the battery was so low and very nearly ran out of juice. Just now I hooked it up to a proper charger with a Google cable and the thing has added 15% charge since I started typing this paragraph. Ok. Lesson learned.

I'm still loving the tofu litter so much. It's so much fresher and cleaner and easier to manage. But, it is also so much louder. Biggie is in the little box right now and it sounds like he's digging to China. Of course, I did just scoop it out so he has to fix it back right but still.

Ok, time to quit fiddle farting around and get this day going.

Last night Julio was curled up in Perfect Cat Position so I just captured him.

My foot was much better yesterday. A little off but not like Monday. And today is about the same. Monday felt like it was not only cramped to the max but with the add on of stabbing pain. Today it feels like it could cramp up in any minute but it's not cramping now. So grateful.

I tested out some new goggle in the pool this morning. FAIL. The ones I have been using are, in fact, the reflective ones Google says should work. At least they don't bore holes into my eye sockets like the others. Amazon return. Otherwise my swim was good.

And I remembered, coming home, that I'd forgot to send the Food and Beverage Committee paperwork for duplication to reception. Yikes. Did that and, hopefully, as long as they printer isn't broken, they will have it in time for the 1:30 meeting. Whew.

So meeting at 1:30 and then fixing up the minutes while it's fresh on my mind plus, Harriet needs them for a meeting tomorrow. And that's it for my day.

Friday is my foot doctor appointment BUT ALSO the first baseball game of the year. It's a Spring Training game. I remember years when I was counting the days until this game. One year I was on jury duty and could only listen on breaks. This year, I'm interested but if something else comes along, it won't kill me to miss it.

My CPA should have my taxes done any day now. It will be nice to get them out of the way but I am not the least bit stressed about them. I'm sure, if I owe anything, it's not much. And, I don't even expect his bill to be that much - but whatever it is, it is totally worth it to me.

Whew my copies are ready at reception.

Better go get 'em before someone else does. No one is going to but I do need the steps.

When my doctor asked about any other issues, I said 'well, the normal back and leg issues from being old and fat and out of shape.' That's when she started talking GLP-1. She said not so much for the numbers but for the burden relief. And that's how it got started.

I'm about finishing 4 weeks and I've lost some of me steadily - not too much. I think she'll be pretty pleased when I check in with her in a couple of months. I haven't yet lost enough to notice anywhere but on the scales.

Except...

My wrists!

I wear a watchband on my left wrist and 3 DNR bangle bracelets on my right. My watchband kept sliding around so I couldn't tell the time without fiddling with it so yesterday I took out a link Much better.

Today, after maybe 5 months of wear at this size, my bangle bracelets fell off twice during volleyball. Just now I took them off and squeezed them smaller.

So, Susan, where would you like to lose weight? Ass? Hips? Boobs? Chins? Nah, let's go wrists.

I'd like a partial refund, please.

Yesterday morning, I put on shoes and socks and took a step and pain shot right through me. My right foot's pinched nerve spent the day being horribly painfully pinchy. I managed to walk down to the buffet to pick up dinner and when I got back and got off my foot, it still hurt for another hour. It woke me up a couple of times last night and kinda felt sore this morning but I walked to the pool and played an hour and a half of volleyball and walked back and so far, so good.

My appointment is Friday and I almost called yesterday to see if I could scooche it up. But, I didn't and maybe it will be fine. I do know that I have exactly 0 tolerance for chronic pain. And I hate my feet. Particularly the right one.

My credit card is at UPS getting loaded onto the truck but, honestly, now that Amazon has the right number and I can use my phone's wallet, I am not longer in a panic to even get it. I got an email from Chase saying I don't even need to authenticate it. Slick.

We only had 5 for volleyball this morning but it was the best 5 so it worked out. I turned to Gemini about the sun's glare while swimming. I've been using dark polarized goggles and Gemini said what I need is good reflective goggles and gave me a list starting at $90. ! I found some $50 ones for $30 on Amazon and ordered. They arrived yesterday but they were dumped at the front desk instead of put into the lockers. When packages get dumped, you have to wait for them to be delivered. They deliver M-F in the afternoon except for the days they do not. Saturday, a security guy brought up my order from Chewy's which was really nice. Yesterday, I got nothing. Hopefully, I'll get the goggles today.

Today is housecleaning day. I did laundry yesterday. I have kind of a Jones for a Goodwill trip but not with this foot so that will need to be another day.

I remember losing my credit card once in the early 2000's. I kept being bounced from one support person to another. I practically had to have a legal affidavit saying that the card was nowhere in my house, care or clothing. Finally, the next day, the declared it dead and agreed to replace it. "Your new card will be there in 4 to 6 weeks." I think it was closer to 5 but by then, of course, I had a new card from a different bank.

This morning my card, lost Saturday, is useable via my phone and Amazon and I don't even know the number myself yet! Nice. The only real stickler is Chewy. I'll need to have the whole number for them. I do have my backup card and I also have a healthy supply of cat food and tofu litter. So it's fine.

Bonny popped in yesterday afternoon "You wanna go over to the Wild Fin for happy hour about 4:30?" SURE!! So we did. We had a drink and an appetizer (tacos) and it was lovely, different and delicious. She's getting a new hip on May 4th and she's fairly freaked out about it. She's been putting it off for years. We did go in my car. She drives a giant Lexus and had never been in a Smart car before. When I turned it on, she squealed. "Look at that dashboard, it's got nothing on it!!" hahahaha. I remember the first time I took Myrna in it, she exclaimed "Wow! This feels like a real car!" Bonny did ask where the engine was and I told her that I knew where the battery was but had no clue where the engine was. I've only had the car for 14 years.

No swimming today. I have an appointment on Friday with the foot guy. I'm going to ask him about the skin issues on the bottom of my toes but mainly I need another cortisone shot. My right foot is very unhappy again. He fixed it once.

One project today is to find a new book. I finished The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett last night. It remained delightfully weird and quirky to the very end. It's going to be a tough one to follow. I think I need a bloody murder mystery with no melodrama.

And I'm back to mini monsters on the knitting needles. I made 40 bunnies - well, actually 45 if you count the test bunnies (not pictured).

Martha wants to add neck ribbons and cotton tails to them. I don't care one way or another. I'll put them out for adoption starting on March.

I watched Song Sung Blue yesterday. I am so not a movie person but I did make it to the end. I thought Kate Hudson was amazing. I thought Hugh Jackman was very meh. And the movie was ok. The fact that I watched it to the end is probably the highest praise from me. The music was fun.

Ok, time to get on with my day.

My best morning is after a lovely sleep, waking up to dark, drinking my coffee and interneting and then going for a swim, all before the first light. For half the year, I can do that easily. But, today starts the other half of the year. I woke up at 6:30 and I could see light. CURSES! I'll get a bit of a reprieve when day light saving time kicks in but only about a week until it's full assed daylight before I open my eyes. And soon it will be full assed sun in the pool unless I want to swim at 4 am. ARUGH. Oh well, it was a lovely winter. And at least I have shades I can lower in here. And maybe someday they will get the fucking shades at the pool fixed. Meanwhile I need to get blackout goggles. My dark ones aren't going to cut it.

My CPA uses this secure file system for exchanging documents. It's very easy on my end plus, it tells me when he downloads the stuff I uploaded. Dude was working at 9 pm last night - Valentine's. Ahhh the life of a CPA.

Hazel, John and Joan all have some kind of cold/crud. Timber Ridge now has a nurse who will come to your apartment and assess or wound dress or any number of other things. It's a FABULOUS service and she is really good. She's seen them all and so we know it's not life threatening but... John and Joan are over 90 and Hazel is close so on any given day, breathing can be life threatening. I do find myself not as interested in spending a lot of time in the elbow and walking on the other side of the hall when I pass their apartments.

I did get to Target yesterday. What a shit show that store has turned into. They had 5,897 different colors and combos of thin ankle socks. I wanted socks with thick bottoms. So I went to the men's section. Every single piece of their mens underwear was behind lock and key so you had to find some invisible sales person with attitude to unlock to even look at the shit. I bought a twofer bundle of cheap assed socks on sale (even so paying double what they are really worth) and got out of there.

Then on to Trader Joe's where I discovered at checkout that there was a problem with my credit card. DECLINED 3 times! WTF?? The really sweet clerk said his end indicated the card "has been compromised." So I whipped out my debit card and then went to the car to investigate. Sure enough, I did not have the card. Where the fuck was it?

Oh well, I've had that card/number and secret 3 digit code for a fair number of years and used it for everything. Would not hurt to refresh. So I called Chase. And I learned a lot. 1. There is no way in the app or online, to find out your actual full card number. If you don't have it written down somewhere else or have the card, you do not have the full number. 2. Chase is actually pretty damn efficient at this stuff. I had to wait and I was transferred but I never had to hear hold music. There were no weird charges on my card. Once I verified that I did not have it, they started the replacement stuff. 5-7 business days. "Oh no, said I, can't you expedite that?" "Of course, I can. 1-2 business days. It will come via UPS and probably be there Monday." Thank you.

I totally forgot to ask why they had locked the card in the first place. Then I remembered/pieced together what probably happened. The only time I actually use the actual card is at Hobby Lobby where Jesus won't let them use Google Pay. Yet another reason for not shopping there. I need to stop that. I'm guessing I left the card there and they called Chase and Chase said ok will lock it down. But, that was Tuesday and I've charged stuff since then, haven't I?

Oh well. done is done. But, here's the interesting bit. When I got home, I logged on to check and verify when I was actually in Hobby Lobby and when I looked, Chase had already changed my card number to the new one! And, according to them, I can use the new card in my digital wallet right away. Interestingly, even though I have my Amazon and Chase account linked together, the old card number is still showing up there so I'm afraid to use it for Amazon purchases. I'll wait until the new one comes and everything looks kosher.

And I need to make sure all my credit/debit card full numbers are written down somewhere I have easy access to whenever and wherever.

Someone opened up YET another Poshmark account with my email address. Holy fuck people. Lean your email address and it is NOT susandennis@gmail.com. Poshmark sends out a lott o shit.

Ok, now I need to go pull an uncrustable out of the freezer and clean up my breakfast dishes and scoop out the litter box and then watch Tia Weston's Sunday morning YouTube update. Busy day!

Volleyball was fun this morning. Two of the players will be gone next week so it could be dicey but today was fine.

I'm still enamoured with my new toy. It's an android tablet (think giant phone) but it has way more tricks. It has something called PC mode where the screen moves from phone like to PC like (with toolbar at the bottom, etc). It's weird but interesting.

The keyboard is still great but the screen with the stylus is also VERY cool. I can write out in handwriting what I want - like search terms in Google - and the screen replaces my chicken scratch with print and the search begins - in an instant. It's just very cool.

Also I discovered last night that the app that I use to listen to Library books - Libby - also has a giant magazine section. And they are a joy to thumb through on this tablet. And they are free.

Elbow coffee starts in a bit. I never got to Target for socks yesterday and now I need some Trader Joe's stuff which is next door so maybe after elbow coffee, I'll make a little trip.

But, as usual, with these entries, when I get done, I get dressed!

It's now 2:15 and except for a short lunch/Jeopardy break, I've been at this tablet since it got here this morning and I'm in love. It's weird. I've had Chromebooks for years and android phones for even longer and while this is android, it really falls between the Chromebook and the phone and is kind of an operating system of its own.

Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus

The keyboard is one of those that attaches magnetically. It is one of the nicest keyboards I've ever typed on. Clean, sure key presses and no weirdness at all. Honestly, I wish my Chromebook keyboards were this good. Heck, I'd still be using my Google Pixelbook, if the keyboard had been half this nice.

The pen is fine. It's not as functional as say an Apple pen and the handwriting experience does not have as nice a feel as the Kindle Scribe but it works great and I'll be using it a lot. I have a note taking app that you just write with the pen and then lasso what you wrote and it turns it right into text. Soooo cool. (Taking minutes at the Food & Beverage meetings!) And there is a spot for the pen to sit where it also charges. Quite handy.

Oh and there's a whole section for watching streams - I swipe left and there are all my streams even with suggestions for what to watch. I think I might be liking that most of all.

There's some weirdness in the operation and I cannot decide if I'd rather use Gmail from the app or from a Chrome tab - baby steps. But I sure do like this new toy.

I was all dressed and ready to Target when I checked to see if UPS had my little map yet.

It DID! And the little brown truck was very nearly at the front door. So I hustled my butt downstairs to the front desk. If I don't get there when he does, then my package goes in with everyone else's and is delivered sometime this afternoon.

Mr. UPS was there looking for someone to sign when I got there. I breathlessly signed and grabbed my prize.

Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus

It's really beautiful and the perfect size. And really beautiful. I copied from my phone to save some steps and it was all set up and ready to go 30 minutes from the time I bought the box through the door. I like that.

I'm not that familiar with Lenovo-ese. The only Lenovo thing I have is a very old tablet that speaks beginner android. So I have some learning to do. But, so far, I'm thrilled. I'm now upgrading the operating system. Looks like that's going to take a while. I might pop out to Target if I can't play with it while it upgrades.

I started dieting to lose weight when I was about 16. I quit when I was 50. I gave up smoking and, as a reward, promised myself I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it, amen. I gained about 100 pounds and have kept it since. I've been operating on that same premise until 3 weeks ago so 27 years.

My deal with myself (and my doctor) with Wegovy is that I would continue my premise. Eat what I want when I want. And, for the most part I have done just that. I have added in more protein to stave off any unpleasant digestive side effects. And I've added prunes.

My plan is to eat, live, shoot up this way from now until the end. So no denying myself. I will eat what I want when I want it. If I want fried chicken, I eat fried chicken. If I want cake, I eat cake.

Mostly, I do not feel like eating more than is necessary which is great. And I have had no appetite for fried chicken or cake. But, yesterday, I didn't eat enough and wanted to snack all night. I did not and when I got into bed I realized I was breaking my promise to myself. If I want to eat something, I should eat it. I am not on a diet like the old days. I am on a diet like the new days.

My new Tech is down the road at the UPS station "being readied for delivery". Not that I'm stalking. OK, I'm stalking. Usually UPS gives me a little map with a brown truck and tells me how many stops away I am. I am a sucker for this little map.

I had a lovely swim this morning.

My feet are getting bad again. I should go back to that podiatrist and might if they don't get better. I need some thicker socks, I think. I should get off my ass and go to Target. I might. (Walmart would probably be better but Target is way closer.)

But, first I probably should get dressed.

Today is Thursday so volleyball, then Timber Ridge Times, then shot.

Volleyball was a little less than meh. The jerk that plays sometimes was there today and extra jerky. He makes it difficult for the rest of us to play. Sometimes he's on his good behavior. Today wasn't one of those times.

But Thursday is distribution day for The Timber Ridge Times. It's a nice little 8 sheet compendium of stuff that has gone on or is planned and other miscellaneous news from around the building. They do a nice job of it. The receptionist counts out the number of issues needed for each floor section and those of us who deliver, pick them up any time on Thursday. I generally pick up our batch on my way back from volleyball.

And then shot 4. I'm now emptied my first box of Wegovy. Next one is ready. I'm used to the sting - it's not so much the needle but the juice going in and just a bit after. I feel like it's kind of a 'good job!' message.

My last tax docs arrived. Early! They are required by the 15th. but the 15th is a Sunday and then Monday is Presidents day so I guess the investment first just said fuck it, let's just release them. I uploaded them to the CPA and sent a note - it's up to you, now!!

Last year, I ordered a large El cheapo tablet to use as a 'tv' in the bedroom. It turned out to be pretty much a dud. A large dud. So, this year, heading into baseball season, I decided to see if I could find a non dud. And I actually found several. Well, really two because I refuse to own a Samsung phone/tablet/computer. One was from a company that feels pretty shaky and you could only order it from them and all the accouterments I wanted - pen and keyboard were extra and it was pricey to start with. So that left me with Lenovo. Even that was not easy since they have two different models - one is better at some things and the other is better at others. Even Gemini couldn't make the decision for me. But, finally, I picked - Yoga Plus. It arrives tomorrow morning. Before lunch.

I love getting new tech. Which is why I have so much and don't need more but, fortunately, do not let that stop me.

Plus, I've been thinking about ditching my living room TV. If I had anything to put in its place, I might just do it. One day, if I live long enough, I'll rearrange this room and eliminate the TV and just watch from small screens. Maybe. Probably not.

The cats pulled out a plug from the bed. It's a mass of wires and cables under there and I have no clue where this one goes. The foot still rises. The head still rises. The under bed lights still work. It could connect the USB plugs that I don't use or the battery backup which has never worked. I just don't know and as long as everything is working, I'm not going to worry about it. I bought a 10 year warranty when I bought the bed in 2021. So whew.
Wednesday, February 11th, 2026 08:16 am
I'm using the sun as an excuse why I didn't go swimming this morning. It's a very lame excuse. The real reason is that I didn't wanna. So I didn't, But, the sun is out with fog rolling in and out. The pool has wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows that fast east. The glare is a bitch. They have shades but they are currently broken and won't lower.

On Wednesdays, facilities/maintenance holds a help desk where you can go ask questions. Today I will go back again to see if there is an update on getting the fucking shades fixed. I doubt it but squeaky wheel, etc.

Then there is a Seahawks parade which I will avoid and then the Food and Beverage Committee meeting.

So that's my day. So far.

I want to go to Daiso but the closest one is about 20 minutes away and I'm lazy. I'm nearly out of Costco chicken wings which are a staple around here so I'll be needing to replenish that supply. But not today.

I do need to go down to the front desk to pick up my copies for the committee meeting. I could wait until I go down for the help desk thing, but an extra trip would mean more steps especially on a non swim day. But, first, I'd probably better get dressed.

Usually, the tech who does all the eye tests is a young female who speaks to you with the animation of a toy on repeat. She could care less and I'm just another annoying breathing customer.

Today, however, I got Neal who was fresh and alert and interesting and even explained why the yellow drops are yellow and their dual purpose. They numb the eye so the blue light can touch the eyeball comfortably and when he sees green (blue and yellow, get it?) he knows he's scored. I never knew all that.

But, then I got the doctor who was one of those women who wants to know what I'm going to do with the rest of my day and other chit chat that just drives me up the wall. She spit out a word salad of shit about my eyes but I was able to pick out the meat - they are fine. No change from last time. BUT she wants one of those annoying clicker texts in 6 months.

And my eyes are dilated. But, it's done and August is down the road.

And MLB.TV woke up so I ordered a year of Mariners. Not Phillies. Mariners plus Phillies and everyone else would have been twice as much and I just wasn't feelin' it.

So, Dr. Eye, that's the rest of my day.

Back in August of 2025, we announced a temporary block on account creation for users under the age of 18 from the state of Tennessee, due to the court in Netchoice's challenge to the law (which we're a part of!) refusing to prevent the law from being enforced while the lawsuit plays out. Today, I am sad to announce that we've had to add South Carolina to that list. When creating an account, you will now be asked if you're a resident of Tennessee or South Carolina. If you are, and your birthdate shows you're under 18, you won't be able to create an account.

We're very sorry to have to do this, and especially on such short notice. The reason for it: on Friday, South Carolina governor Henry McMaster signed the South Carolina Age-Appropriate Design Code Act into law, with an effective date of immediately. The law is so incredibly poorly written it took us several days to even figure out what the hell South Carolina wants us to do and whether or not we're covered by it. We're still not entirely 100% sure about the former, but in regards to the latter, we're pretty sure the fact we use Google Analytics on some site pages (for OS/platform/browser capability analysis) means we will be covered by the law. Thankfully, the law does not mandate a specific form of age verification, unlike many of the other state laws we're fighting, so we're likewise pretty sure that just stopping people under 18 from creating an account will be enough to comply without performing intrusive and privacy-invasive third-party age verification. We think. Maybe. (It's a really, really badly written law. I don't know whether they intended to write it in a way that means officers of the company can potentially be sentenced to jail time for violating it, but that's certainly one possible way to read it.)

Netchoice filed their lawsuit against SC over the law as I was working on making this change and writing this news post -- so recently it's not even showing up in RECAP yet for me to link y'all to! -- but here's the complaint as filed in the lawsuit, Netchoice v Wilson. Please note that I didn't even have to write the declaration yet (although I will be): we are cited in the complaint itself with a link to our August news post as evidence of why these laws burden small websites and create legal uncertainty that causes a chilling effect on speech. \o/

In fact, that's the victory: in December, the judge ruled in favor of Netchoice in Netchoice v Murrill, the lawsuit over Louisiana's age-verification law Act 456, finding (once again) that requiring age verification to access social media is unconstitutional. Judge deGravelles' ruling was not simply a preliminary injunction: this was a final, dispositive ruling stating clearly and unambiguously "Louisiana Revised Statutes §§51:1751–1754 violate the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as incorporated by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution", as well as awarding Netchoice their costs and attorney's fees for bringing the lawsuit. We didn't provide a declaration in that one, because Act 456, may it rot in hell, had a total registered user threshold we don't meet. That didn't stop Netchoice's lawyers from pointing out that we were forced to block service to Mississippi and restrict registration in Tennessee (pointing, again, to that news post), and Judge deGravelles found our example so compelling that we are cited twice in his ruling, thus marking the first time we've helped to get one of these laws enjoined or overturned just by existing. I think that's a new career high point for me.

I need to find an afternoon to sit down and write an update for [site community profile] dw_advocacy highlighting everything that's going on (and what stage the lawsuits are in), because folks who know there's Some Shenanigans afoot in their state keep asking us whether we're going to have to put any restrictions on their states. I'll repeat my promise to you all: we will fight every state attempt to impose mandatory age verification and deanonymization on our users as hard as we possibly can, and we will keep actions like this to the clear cases where there's no doubt that we have to take action in order to prevent liability.

In cases like SC, where the law takes immediate effect, or like TN and MS, where the district court declines to issue a temporary injunction or the district court issues a temporary injunction and the appellate court overturns it, we may need to take some steps to limit our potential liability: when that happens, we'll tell you what we're doing as fast as we possibly can. (Sometimes it takes a little while for us to figure out the exact implications of a newly passed law or run the risk assessment on a law that the courts declined to enjoin. Netchoice's lawyers are excellent, but they're Netchoice's lawyers, not ours: we have to figure out our obligations ourselves. I am so very thankful that even though we are poor in money, we are very rich in friends, and we have a wide range of people we can go to for help.)

In cases where Netchoice filed the lawsuit before the law's effective date, there's a pending motion for a preliminary injunction, the court hasn't ruled on the motion yet, and we're specifically named in the motion for preliminary injunction as a Netchoice member the law would apply to, we generally evaluate that the risk is low enough we can wait and see what the judge decides. (Right now, for instance, that's Netchoice v Jones, formerly Netchoice v Miyares, mentioned in our December news post: the judge has not yet ruled on the motion for preliminary injunction.) If the judge grants the injunction, we won't need to do anything, because the state will be prevented from enforcing the law. If the judge doesn't grant the injunction, we'll figure out what we need to do then, and we'll let you know as soon as we know.

I know it's frustrating for people to not know what's going to happen! Believe me, it's just as frustrating for us: you would not believe how much of my time is taken up by tracking all of this. I keep trying to find time to update [site community profile] dw_advocacy so people know the status of all the various lawsuits (and what actions we've taken in response), but every time I think I might have a second, something else happens like this SC law and I have to scramble to figure out what we need to do. We will continue to update [site community profile] dw_news whenever we do have to take an action that restricts any of our users, though, as soon as something happens that may make us have to take an action, and we will give you as much warning as we possibly can. It is absolutely ridiculous that we still have to have this fight, but we're going to keep fighting it for as long as we have to and as hard as we need to.

I look forward to the day we can lift the restrictions on Mississippi, Tennessee, and now South Carolina, and I apologize again to our users (and to the people who temporarily aren't able to become our users) from those states.

It's house cleaning day. It's eye doctor day. It's send the agenda to the front desk for copying day (for food and beverage committee meeting tomorrow). It's buy MLB.TV Mariners subscription day - except it is not yet available - it just says 'available for purchase on Feb 10.' Guess they didn't mean 2026.

I have things to return from Amazon BUT I have a purchase arriving today that I know I will be returning so I may save it all until this last bit comes in. I feel like I need a grocery store run but there's nothing on my list and I can't think of anything I need so maybe the grocery store can wait, too.

Quite by accident, my eye appointment is the same time as my house cleaning. Nice.

I finally found the perfect sit for my closet/dressing room. It's one of those folding fabric boxes but study enough to sit and and high enough and narrow enough not to eat up real estate. I used it this morning for putting on my pants and my socks. My closet is now officially done and perfect. It's my new happy place.

My investment total has sky rocketed in the last couple of weeks. Which means, of course, that fairly soon, I'll lose a bundle. Easy come... easy go... I'm glad I'm old.

Last night was the night. The night when I was most grateful of all to be out of that condo. Even though the game wasn't played at the stadium across the street, the neighborhood was ground zero for all the drunk idiots who leave their lovely neighborhoods to disseminate ours. Last time, they literally ruined historic architecture. Not to mention leaving a sea of puke and pee and shit on every sidewalk. Yep. Do not miss it. One single bit.

Get off my lawn does not even begin to cover it.

And they will do it all again Wednesday when they have the victory parade. This time I can blissfully ignore the whole thing.

Just saw the most fun dog scene. There's this bent over little old man who lives here and has two small dogs. He's not at all friendly but his dogs are adorable. Just now he's bringing them in from their very wet morning walk and as they make the turn to go across the terrace to the door, one of the dogs just sits. The other one moves forward but dog #1 just sits and stares at the guy. It's hilarious. Finally after a really long time, the dog jumps forward, up and down with tail wagging clearly saying in doggie speak "hahahahaha just kidding!! I love you, do you love me? Will there be treats?" That crabby man can be as crabby as he wants, his dogs are still adorable (and his wife is very nice).

I got to the pool early this morning and had a lovely swim. No other plans for today. The rest of the week is relatively busy so it's fine that today is not.

I took a break from bunnies yesterday to replenish my monster supply.

I was in a text convo with Bonny about what we could/should do, if anything when there was another knock at the door. It was Jim. 'can you come see?'. This is how he always starts. So I said sure. And I opened the door to his apartment and his TV was on and there was a football game on it!!! His care giver had come and just hit the power button.

In retrospect, it kind of makes sense. I assumed this TV was on and had just blipped off which is what it had done in the past and, in the past, a simple unplug/replug fixed it. This time it did not fix it. Because, apparently, it was not turned on.

Holy fuck and thankyoujesus for care givers!

Also, I'm kind of impressed (and grateful) that he came to tell me. Now I am going to go enjoy the day!

Jim Across The Hall's television went out again this morning. Rebooting didn't bring it back to life. He has a TV in the bedroom but it doesn't work either. It's Sunday, no one here to fix or help. All he likes is sports. No Olympics for him, no Superbowl for him. He has nothing to do. But, I have no fix. He can barely operate the remote control. I don't know if he knows how to call his son or his one friend who comes now and again. He just should not be living on his own. Maybe this will be the catalyst to get him what he needs.

I did text Bonny and told her. Maybe she has an idea. I'm out and now sweaty. Moving his furniture to get to an alternate outlet.

BUT I did get in a nice swim. The pool was crowded! Well, there are four lanes and there were four swimmers but that's crowded. It's reassuring for the pool program to see other swimmers.

Except for Jim, and me, everyone else around here is focused on the Superbowl.

I'm all caught up on my chores. The clothes are clean and the kitchen is tidy. I have creatures to knit and TV to watch. I was thinking that I was sorry I gave away my little TV or I'd take it over to Jim's but it's really doubtful he could watch it because it's not the same as his and it would freak him out, probably so just as well. I need to quit stressing about him.

This week I have my eye appointment. new doctor. A or B, click when you see the light, etc. I really don't love eye appointments. So it will be good to get it over with.

Biggie is not loving 5 pills a day. And he and Julio are still not 100% into the new food situation. But, I haven't seen any indication that they are working on picket signs. or calling PETA.
